Things you may need to know

Is it snowing?
You can check out the current on mountain weather and conditions with Thredbo’s website thredbo.com.au. Click on the “weather and conditions” button for up to date images from a a variety of locations around the resort.

When will it snow?
Well anytime really, but from May you can expect regular snowfalls.  The great thing about Thredbo is that there is a dedicated team of snowmakers whose job is just that, to make snow grow.  To see the history of snow depths check out the chart from the past 50 winters with information provided by the Snowy Hydro Ltd.  To find out all the latest snow and weather conditions, snow depth etc go to thredbo.com.au/snow

Is June a good time to come?
There are great deals available in June this year, so in that respect it is a good time to come and with Thredbo’s snowmaking team getting underway in mid May there’s sure to be some snow on the ground.

Why a snow holiday?
Some say a highlight is it’s something that you can either do as a group, a family, as a couple or on your own. It is a sport mum, dad, grandma and grandpa can all do together and the kids can be better than everyone. Thredbo is an all encompassed snow holiday, whether you are hitting the slopes or you are just a snow bystander. And if you are going to be cold in winter you might as well be in the snow.

Will I need chains when I drive up?
For up to date road conditions call the RTA roads hotline on 132 701. Chains are available for hire from Jindabyne, Khancoban and Cooma.  Locally area tune to 2XL on 92.1 FM or 97.7 Snow FM for regular updates.

How much is it to get into the National Park?
The daily rate (24hrs) per car in the winter is $27, if you are here for over a week it is best to get an annual permit for $190, this is valid for one year and allows you entry into all NSW National Parks.  Buy your pass from the Entrance Station 13km before Thredbo, the Snowy Region Visitors Centre in Jindabyne or Thredbo Sports.

How long does it take to get to Thredbo?
A trip from the Sydney CBD takes approx five hours.  From Melbourne it takes about 5.5 hours.  Canberra is only a 2.5 hour drive. Cooma is approx a one hour and 10 minute drive.

Does Thredbo offer night snow riding? If so how much is it?
Thredbo has free Twilight riding every Thursday and Saturday evening through July and August from 4.30pm to 8.30pm on Friday Flat.

Why do I have to show my pass?
To gain access to the lifts, everyone has to have a valid pass. Thredbo Guest Services are located at the bottom of the lifts, scanning your ticket before you head up the mountain. To ensure the efficient flow of lift lines it helps to have your ticket showing and attached correctly. For a little extra peace of mind, Thredbo lift passes have a detachable security stub. You should tear the stub off and keep it in a safe place. If by chance you lose your ticket just head to the Ticket Office with your stub, where they can cancel your lost pass.

How do I get there from Sydney by car?
Follow the Hume Highway from Sydney then just south of Goulburn take the Federal Highway and travel south to Canberra. Once through Canberra follow the signs to the Monaro Highway and Cooma.  The road then joins the Kosciuszko Road that continues through the towns of Berridale and on to Jindabyne. Just past Jindabyne Town Centre take a left onto the Alpine Way to Thredbo.

Where will I park the car?
Thredbo can park 2,500 cars.  There are two kinds of parking - overnight car parking for those staying overnight or longer and day parking for those here just for the day.  These are signposted accordingly.  Some lodges, apartments and chalets have on-site parking so check when making your booking.

How often do the shuttle buses leave?
During the winter season free shuttle buses run regularly around the village, signs at some bus stops display operating times.  An important note that the small shuttle buses operate between the overnight car parks and the village lodges until 9pm Sunday through to Thursday (inclusive) and until midnight on Friday nights and Saturday during busy times.  The big red bus services only the village to Friday Flat route.

Can I toboggan?
Due to safety issues, tobogganing is NOT allowed in Thredbo.

Can I hire gloves and goggles?
Gloves and goggles are personal items so they are not available for hire but you can buy them from any reputable snow sports retail outlet.
