Health and fitness
Working in the mountains can take a little getting used to.  You are around 1-2km’s above sea level and the weather can often be challenging, so it is best to be fit and healthy from the start.

You will see that most jobs have some physical element to them. Therefore, you should consider undertaking a gym program or fitness regime well before the season starts so that you will be able to enjoy working as well as playing. 

Snowboarding and skiing are physically demanding, especially for the beginner and intermediate.  You will be using parts of your body you may not have used for some time. And you will be outside in all the elements; this is physically tiring if you are not used to the conditions.

We are fortunate to have the Thredbo Leisure Centre that has a fully equipped gym, swimming pool, squash court and indoor sports hall to keep you in tip top shape once you are here. Fitness programs such as pilates, yoga, boxing classes and others are all on offer.  But don't wait until you get here to find out you are not in as good a shape as you need to be.  You want to start enjoying yourself from day one, so get fit before you start.

A physio is located at the Leisure Centre over winter and we have a year round massage centre in the Thredbo Alpine Hotel.

The Thredbo Medical Centre is open 7 days a week from early June to mid-October.  Let’s hope you don’t need to go there.

Have enough money
You are moving to a resort town so the cost of living may be more than what you are used to paying at home.  Plan ahead and have extra money for food, accommodation and deposits.  If you are not supplied with a season pass make sure you save enough so you can ride as soon as the snow falls.  Deposits for accommodation start from $650 per person.

Play hard but work hard too
Yes the lure of the mountain lifestyle - ride all day party all night but unlike holiday makers you have to work the next day.  While we want you to embrace your time in the snow, just act responsibly and enjoy a comfortable mix of the two. A strong work ethic is top of the “must have” list for working in the mountains.

Interviews
If successful for an interview you will need to make yourself available to catch up with the recruitment team. Read the section on Interviews so you can put the date in your diary for April.  You will be advised the location in advance so you will have enough notice to organise your schedule.

Getting to work
Most accommodation is in Jindabyne 33km’s from Thredbo, so a car is recommended.  There is no public transport, so car pooling has always been a popular option.  If you do have a vehicle you will require an access pass for the season to enter the Kosciuszko National Park.  There is an administration charge of approx. $38 for this pass and it is all handled through the National Parks and Wildlife Service office in Jindabyne.  You will require a letter confirming your employment to accompany your application.

Appearance
A professional and well groomed appearance must be maintained while on the job.

Jeans/Trousers - whether they are company issue or your own pants, they must be clean and well fitted. The current style of baggy, ill-fitting pants are not permitted.  Our customers don't need to see your underwear and no flesh is to be showing around the midriff.

Hair - it should be well cared for and, if long, could be an OHS risk. Long hair will need to be tied back neatly.

Piercing - we don’t mind you being pierced but you should keep in mind safety and hygiene. Facial piecing including your tongue is not permitted, minimal tasteful earrings are fine.

Face fluff - Beards and moustaches should be well established before you start your job and kept nice and tidy at all times. If you do not have facial hair, a close clean shave is necessary.

Roses - A high standard of cleanliness and hygiene is compulsory.

Tattoos - visible tattoos should be covered

Know your stuff
As a new employee we will need lots of information about you so we can pay you. So please bring your tax file number, bank account details and superannuation information to avoid any delay in being paid.

Pay Day
Once all your paper work is correct you will be paid weekly.
