Thredbo Child Care Centre (Creche) What lessons / programs are available for children? Thredboland - Skiing program for 3 to 6 year olds. All day or half day afternoons available.
Thredbo Freeriders - Skiing, snow boarding and new school programs for 7 to 14 year olds. All day or half day afternoons available.
Club Freeride - Freeriding program for skiing and snowboarding for 15 to 18 year olds. All day sessions available in school holidays only.
Development Squad - skiing, boarding and new school program for kids aged 7- 14 years that includes 12, 18, 20 or 34 days of riding.
Interschool Race Training Camp - in the lead up to the Interschool races students can participate in daily 2 hour sessions or join a 5 day program with bonus equipment tuning tips after 4pm.
Child care - 6 months to 6 years, this is not a skiing or boarding program, it is a crèche. All day, morning and afternoon sessions available. For additional details on this program see the last section of FAQs.
Group lessons - 2 hour group lessons. Not available for children under 7 years.
Private lessons - available for all ages from 1 hour to all day. Must be pre booked.
back to top How do I register or book my child for lessons and special programs? For Thredbo Freeriders, Club Freeride or group lessons, there is no requirement to pre register. Once you have bought the lesson/program ticket at Thredbo Sports, simply arrive 15 minutes prior to the lesson time at the Snow Sports meeting area at Friday Flat.
For Thredboland if you book the program in advance, you still need to register your child prior to the program. Registration is conducted at the Thredboland building at Friday Flat.
Registering your child involves completing a form with parent/guardian information, child allergies, emergency contact details and obtaining name badges for your child. Inoculation certificates are not required for registration.
You may register them the day prior or on the morning of. If registering the morning of, please allow a minimum of 1 hour prior to the program start time to pick up tickets, get fitted for rental equipment and register.
Registration and check-in for Thredboland begins at 8.30 am during the regular season and 8.00am during peak times. It is highly recommended that you register your child the day before.
Upon registration or arrival children are grouped by ability (beginner, intermediate, advanced) and by age. If your child has a Thredbo passport from a previous year it is very helpful if you bring that along.
Children’s private lessons are available by reservation only, for all ages and abilities. Book early for holiday periods.
Thredbo Sports rental shops are located at Friday Flat and Valley Terminal, with the Friday Flat shop being the most convenient to Thredboland. Thredbo Sports rental shops are equipped with state-of-the-art rental equipment for children. Skis, snowboards, poles, boots, and helmets are available for rent.
back to top What are the operating hours of Thredboland? Thredboland is located at Friday Flat and is open daily 8.30am to 4.30pm during the regular season and 8.00am to 4.30pm during peak times. The programs run from 9am to 4pm daily and 12 noon to 4pm for half days. There are no morning only sessions available.
Please allow a minimum of 30 minutes prior to the program start time to register on your first day, or you can pre-register the day before your program start date, which is
highly recommended.

Please note poles are not required for Thredboland unless the child is an advanced skier.
Please label your child's belongings to avoid mix-ups. back to top Should my child wear a helmet? Thredbo encourages our guests to consider the advantages that a snow sport helmet may offer. Regardless of whether or not you chose to wear a helmet, every snow sport participant shares responsibility for his or her safety and for that of others using the area facilities.
Thredbo recommends the use of helmets for children 14 years and younger while participating in our children’s snow sports programs. Helmets are available for rent or sale at Thredbo Sports for your convenience.
back to top What does a day's program consist of? In Thredboland the program begins at 9am with registration open from 8.30am. Once the children have settled down and had the program explained to them they are taken out on lessons until 11.30, when they come in for lunch. The lunch break finishes at 1pm when they are taken out for the rest of the day.
The 3 year olds are taken out for an hour and then back in for an hour. They have a sleep in the afternoon and watch movies and have story telling when they are not outside.
Half day Thredboland programs start at 12 noon and include lunch.
For Thredbo Freeriders and Club Freeride they meet at 9am for a 9.15 program start. Their day is spent out on the mountain returning to Friday Flat for lunch at 12 noon. The program ends at Friday Flat at 4pm.
back to top What meals are included and what are they? Lunch is included with all full day programs for ages 3-14 (for the 7 to 14 year olds parents may give their child additional spending money). Morning and afternoon tea is also provided.
For half day programs lunch and afternoon tea is provided.
Meals vary and include hot food, sandwiches, fruit and hot/cold drinks. Special meals can be organised on request.
back to top Can I ski/board with my child?Parents are encouraged to take an interest in their children’s development. During lesson time however, kids often become distracted and distressed when Mum and Dad come and go from the lesson. Therefore, we ask that parents watch from a distance while kids are participating in any lessons.
back to top Can I visit my child during the day? Certainly, however, if the child is prone to separation anxiety we recommend you view them from a distance. One separation a day is enough! In Thredboland parents cannot go past the ‘parent free zone’ barrier. You can, however, visit your child in the foyer.
back to top Do the children take a nap during the day?It’s not something we plan into the day but 3 year olds do have plenty of time to take a nap.
back to top What happens if my child becomes ill during the day?It depends on the seriousness of the illness. A lie down before lunch may settle the child but if it is serious we call the parents straight away.

back to top What if my child does not ski or board? Thredbo Child Care Centre (Crèche) is a non-skiing program for children 6mths ¬to 6yrs and offers full or half day programs. Bookings are essential. Bookings should be made in advance through Thredbo Resort Centre on 1300 020 589.

What happens if my child is sick at Child Care Children showing signs of illness will not be accepted into the Centre until symptoms subside. If your child becomes ill during the day, we will make every effort to contact you so that you may pick him/her up.
