Take in the magic of Thredbo by foot with our guided and self-guided walks

There are a variety of exciting and adventurous walks to suit what ever your fitness level. Take in the magic views from the rooftop of Australia, discover the unique wildlife as you make your way along the Thredbo River, or discover the inner workings of Thredbo itself.

Guided walks offer security and knowledge. If you choose to head out without a guide be sure and take a topographical map and compass and know how to use them. When you visit the Kosciuszko National Park a trip to the top of Australia is a must. Not only will you discover the unique wildlife, take in the amazing views and soak up the fresh alpine air, you’ll feel a sense of freedom and achievement like no other. Our guide will give you an informative talk on the unique flora, fauna, geological features and the history of the area. Those who reach the summit receive a Souvenir Certificate.

Kosciuszko Alpine Lakes Guided Walk
This is one of Australia's greatest scenic drives, winding through the magnificent Kosciuszko National Park. You’ll pass by snow capped peaks, fields ablaze with wildflowers and deep blue lakes teaming with trout. The diverse array of wildlife is sure to keep you enthralled.

Kosciuszko Sunset Tour
Your journey to the summit of Mt Kosciuszko begins with an interpretative walk with an expert guide explaining the unique and beautiful landscape along the way. At the summit you will farewell the day from Australia's highest peak then after dark, travel back to Thredbo under a blanket of stars and learn about the constellations from your guide.

* Kosciuszko Express closed for maintenance 7 Nov 11 - 2 Dec 2011 and 30 April - 25 May 2012. During this time Snowgums chair will be operating which will add an additional 30 mins to the return Kosciuszko walk.


Self Guided Walks
Explore Thredbo at your own pace with the range of informational and scenic Thredbo Village self-guided walks.

Art walk
Throughout Thredbo you will find a selection of sculptures and many wonderful original paintings and prints. This self-guided tour allows you to discover and admire these works at your own page. More.

Heritage walk
Meander through Thredbo village and explore the intriguing history of the area and its structures which have been established since 1957. More.

Memorial walk
On 30 July at 11:40pm a section of the road above Thredbo collapsed causing the destruction of buildings and tragic loss of lives. This informative walk is in memory of this event and will take you through viewing areas of the collapsed site. More.

Environmental walk
This informative walk will take you through the village and surrounds, following the Thredbo River, to the Environmental Services work areas where you will be shown how the various forms of infrastructure perform their essential functions to support the natural environment in Thredbo. More.

Ecology walk
This stunning ecology walk follows Merrits Nature Track and allow you to explore several types of plant communities, Alpine,  Sub-alpine and Montane vegetation each reflecting the environmental conditions in which they live in. More.
