Skiing and snowboarding

Thredbo has terrain to suit everyone

If you are looking for a slide down a snowy slope then you have come to the right place as Thredbo has terrain to suit everyone. Whether you are a beginner learning on the gentle slope of Friday Flat, stepping it up a gear at the Cruiser intermediate area or having a crack at some of the most advanced terrain in the country, Thredbo has trails for all standards.

Beginners
Friday Flat has been specially designed with beginner skiers and boarders in mind. The slope is a gentle 12 degrees; the experts say this is the ideal pitch for learning to turn. Getting to the top of the slope is a breeze with easy to use Snow Runners (like a baggage carousel but you stand on these ones) and the Easy Does It Chairlift. To pick up your confidence Thredbo offers a first timer lift and lesson package, and because you’ll be taking on more of the mountain in no time, first timers to Thredbo are offered an all mountain lift pass.

Intermediates
Intermediates love Thredbo. The long, wide, tree-lined trails are ideal for practising those turns and the super quick quad chairlifts make sure you get more runs in a day. Thredbo’s intermediate haven is the Cruiser area. These trails are dedicated to riders who only want to cruise, so there are no speed demons here! You will have a blast on runs like Walkabout, Playground and Ballroom. The great news is these trails are all fully covered by snowmaking. When you’re ready to step it up a level, the long and varied terrain on the Supertrail and High Noon are sure to provide plenty of thrills with up to 5.9km of trails to conquer.

All Mountain Riders
For mountain riders who want it all, Thredbo has the longest and most vertical terrain in the country, with natural hits, wind lips and powder bowls to satisfy even the most advanced riders. Thredbo’s off-piste areas are up there with the best in the southern hemisphere. Whether you are taking on the rollers and kickers off Karels, pumping the boards in the powder off The Bluff or laying them over on the early corduroy of the Supertrail, you’ll have a blast in Thredbo.

Snowboarding Bonus
The great part about snowboarding in Thredbo is you can say bye bye to traversing and hello to downhill cruising! Thredbo has more vertical terrain than any other resort in Australia, that means more time spent riding than doing the old ‘one foot shuffle’ to the next run. With Thredbo’s many high-speed quad chairlifts you can rest your legs on the way up as you prepare for your next downhill mission.

Boarders love the downhill dips and the natural hits of Thredbo, there really is a mountain of off-piste trails to explore. A few of the hidden highlights for intermediate to more advanced riders include the terrain off Snowgums Chair called Bushranger, the big wide faces just under Karels T-bar, Michael’s Mistake around Central Spur and when the snow falls, you will find boarders whoopin’ it up around the Golf Course.

We all have to start somewhere so beginners and lower intermediates can learn the basics on Friday Flat then as the moves become less bumpy, step up to the Cruiser area. Before long you will be seeking more testing trails.

With a diverse mix of terrain parks on offer there are plenty of options to practice your moves. You can slide into a park that is at your level, stomp your favourite trick and move onto the next.

Remember there’s a team of top skiing and boarding instructors on hand at Thredbo Snow Sports School to get you going or to help you perfect your technique.
