Age 3-6

Specialised programs for 3-6 year old littlies that they will love

Have you been on the slopes and a child about half the size of your ski pole schusses right past? If so, they are probably the current crop of graduates from Thredboland.

Thredboland is for children aged 3-6 years and is specially designed to not only teach the kids how to ski but it stimulates the child's imagination, encourages learning and creates intrigue. They even have their very own “kids only” area, where they meet, have lunch and chill out during the day. A highlight of the program, apart from the fab teachers and sliding on the snow, is that there are special fun events during the week. There's a kids only flare run, where they ride down Friday Flat with flares waving to an excited group of families below and a race day. Mums, dads, carers - it's great to know that while you are enjoying a day cruising the slopes, the kids are having a ball with the friendly gang at Thredboland. The highly acclaimed Thredboland program includes: specialist tuition and supervision, play centre, hot lunch, child friendly rest and toilet area and a lift pass.

To streamline the registration process, please print the following form and bring it with you on the day if you have not purchased through our estore and already completed it online. Please complete one form for each child. This form only needs to be completed for the 3-6 year old program.

How do I register or book my child for lessons and special programs?

All children’s lessons can be purchased through our estore. When purchasing through the estore you will be prompted to fill in an online registration form. We also ask that you collect a plastic information tag from the Snow Sports office at Valley Terminal or Friday Flat or from Thredboland prior to the commencement of our first lesson. Children participating in Freeriders lessons are required to be at the designated meeting area 30 minutes prior to lessons commencement (9am or 12:30pm). Upon arrival children’s level will be assessed and their tickets will be validated.

Upon registration or arrival children are grouped by ability (beginner, intermediate, advanced) and by age. If your child has a Thredbo passport from a previous year it is very helpful if you bring that along.
Children's private lessons are available by reservation only, for all ages and abilities. Book early for holiday periods.

Thredbo Sports rental shops are located at Friday Flat and Valley Terminal, with the Friday Flat shop being the most convenient to Thredboland. Thredbo Sports rental shops are equipped with state-of-the-art rental equipment for children. Skis, snowboards, poles, boots, and helmets are available for rent.

What should my child bring?

  • Warm snow sports clothes
  • Gloves/mittens/hat
  • Sunglasses/goggles
  • Sunscreen, and apply it before arriving
  • A rain coat if it is raining
  • Snow sports equipment
  • Please note poles are not required for Thredboland unless the child is an advanced skier.

Please label your child's belongings to avoid mix-ups.

Should my child wear a helmet?

Thredbo encourages our guests to consider the advantages that a snow sport helmet may offer. Regardless of whether or not you chose to wear a helmet, every snow sport participant shares responsibility for his or her safety and for that of others using the area facilities.

Thredbo recommends the use of helmets for children 14 years and younger while participating in our children’s snow sports programs. Helmets are available for rent or sale at Thredbo Sports for your convenience.

What does a day's program consist of?

In Thredboland the program begins at 9am with registration open from 8.30am. Once the children have settled down and had the program explained to them they are taken out on lessons until 11.30, when they come in for lunch. The lunch break finishes at 1pm when they are taken out for the rest of the day.

Children in 3 year old groups have three ski lessons during the day with a morning and lunch break. Children will use our indoor play centre, read stories and watch movies when not out skiing.

Half day Thredboland programs start at 12 noon and include lunch.

For Thredbo Freeriders, Teen sessions or group lessons, participants should arrive with completed information tags 30 minutes prior to lesson commencement times (9am for 9:30am or 12:30pm for 1pm). This arrival time allows us to group children and teens and collect important information while still getting lessons off to a prompt start. Lessons will be spent using appropriate terrain for the ability of the child or teen and will return to Friday Flat at 3:45pm.

What meals are included and what are they?

Lunch is included with all full day programs for ages 3-14 (for the 7 to 14 year olds parents may give their child additional spending money). Afternoon tea is also provided for children participating in Thredboland lessons.

For Thredboland afternoon programs lunch and afternoon tea is also provided.

Meals vary and include hot food, sandwiches, salad/fruit and hot/cold drinks. Special meals can be organised on request.

Can I ski/board with my child?

Parents are encouraged to take an interest in their children’s development. During lesson time however, kids often become distracted and distressed when Mum and Dad come and go from the lesson. Therefore, we ask that parents watch from a distance while kids are participating in any lessons.

Can I visit my child during the day?

Certainly, however, if the child is prone to separation anxiety we recommend you view them from a distance. One separation a day is enough! In Thredboland parents cannot go past the ‘parent free zone’ barrier. You can, however, visit your child in the foyer.

Do the children take a nap during the day?

It’s not something we plan into the day but 3 year olds do have plenty of time to take a nap.

What happens if my child becomes ill during the day?

It depends on the seriousness of the illness. A lie down before lunch may settle the child but if it is serious we call the parents straight away.

Can you administer my child's medication?

Generally no. We do make an exception for asthma medication.

What if my child does not ski or board?
