Thredbo snow report

Saturday, 4 July 2009 at 15:36

Sent By: Hamish Cargill

Weather Top
-2°C. It was a chilly one on the hill this morning with the wind cutting through while the cloud hung around. The sun did peek through in the afternoon which warmed things up a little. Winds gusted from moderate to strong. Today's top temperature between 9am and 2pm was -2°C.

Weather Village
+4°C. Winds stayed light in the village today and the cloud broke up after lunch. This allowed the sun to poke through and warmed things up considerably, turning it into a pleasant Saturday afternoon. Today's top temperature between 9am and 2pm was +4°C.

Snow Conditions
After low overnight temps and strong winds up top the new snow from yesterday had packed and settled but was still dry and grippy and perfect for getting an edge into. Snowmakers worked all night to freshen up the high traffic areas especially over the mid-mountain so the cover was extensive. The lower slopes did soften during the day.

Snow Conditions Data

Snow Riding
Skiers and boarders were happy as Larry on the slopes today with all open runs in great shape. Advanced riders headed high to ride Antons for the first time this season, but it was World Cup and the Supertrail that really stole the show. Intermediates kicked back at the Cruiser and bit the bullet on a very nice High Noon, while beginners once again were cool as cucumbers on Friday Flat.

Skiers
The Cruiser beginner terrain park was open today and is expected to open again tomorrow. It featured a 6m flat box, 6m dance floor box, rollers and a beginner jump. The High Noon terrain park has undergone a rebuild and now features a 9m down box, a 30 ft table top, a 3m pole jam, a 6m flat box and a 6m tube rail .

Groomed Runs
We expect to groom all open runs overnight.

Lifts Operating
10 lifts are expected to open tomorrow including: Cruiser Express, Easy Does It Chairlift, Merritts Double Chair, Snowgums, the two Snow Runners, Gunbarrel Express, the Easy Rider T-Bar and Antons T-Bar. The Kosciuszko Express is set to open again for riding the Supertrail top to bottom.

Bureau Forecast
Sunday: Becoming fine. Monday: Fine Tuesday: Fine

What's On
The Thredbo Leisure Centre is open from 8-7:30pm with pool, gym, squash court, sports hall and waterslide. Mission Inflatable and waterslide are open from 12-6pm. Tim Pringle is playing live in the Lounge Bar tonight from 9:30. His acoustic style sounds perfect mixed with a cocktail and roaring fire. Free guided tour tomorrow - Meet the Thredbo Guest Services Team at the top of Gunbarrel Express at 11am for a insiders look around Thredbo. All you need is to be an upper intermediate rider in posession of a valid lift ticket.

Road Conditions
Open to Thredbo.

Tip of the Day
The weather has settled and the slopes are all snowy, it packed down a bit cause the day was quite blowy. With school holidays here the crowds will start growing, the sun should stay out so they can see where they're going.
