Winter is back

Posted on 24 Jul, 2016 in Festivals & Events

We kicked off last Sunday night with the start of Uni Week. Keller Bar was first up with some of Aussie’s best DJ’s, Young Franco and Yahtzel putting on a night to remember, following it up on Wednesday with a surprise performance where they joined DJ P-Ranch on stage again at the Keller Bar.

On Monday and Wednesday night we saw groups of mates strapping into giant Zorb balls ready to roll down Friday Flat, then on Thursday we finished off the fun with Young Franco and Hayden James playing at the Poolside Après Party from the early afternoon onwards.

Now, lets talk about Friday. There’s no denying that it rained…a lot. Rivers started to rise, and so did everyone’s concern for the amount of water that was falling and subsequently damaging the snow cover. By the early evening over 100mil of rain was recorded and things were looking grim…but hey, who doesn’t love a come back, and what a come back it was!

We got snow! The temperature finally dropped early Saturday morning and the rain turned into precious flakes. We woke up on Saturday morning with 10cm, and cold temps perfect for snowmaking. Oakley Prizm festivities kicked off with the Prizm demo tent on Friday flat and a Q&A with the Oakley athletes, including Olympians Sage Kotsenburg and Scotty James. Snow flurries continued throughout the day, and the blues of Friday turned into a faint memory as we skied the day away on the fresh snow and gathered at poolside ready for Client Liaison to serenade us into the night, thanks to Oakley.

The snow started to fall hard as Client Liaison hit the stage, and poolside was packed with a quality crowd, hot ciders in hand, boogying down to the animated beats provided by Monty, Harvey and the guys. We woke up on Sunday, with sore heads and even more snow, welcoming another 10cm.

All in all it was a week of ups and downs, flooding and snow, but with consecutive cold fronts forecasted for next week it’s looking like there’s only good things to come!
