Escape the Noise…Get Your Head in the Clouds this Summer

Summer is just around the corner which means it’s time to get prepared for crowded cities, uncomfortable & sweaty commutes, crowded beaches, budgie smuglers and Christmas deadlines…sounds really exciting hey?

We all want to escape the noise every now and then, escape the hustle & bustle of everyday life and most importantly the ever growing weekend crowds (spending the weekends in traffic…no thanks!). This summer, escape to a place where you can shut off and let the mind relax. Thredbo, nestled in the heart of the Kosciuszko National Park is surrounded by beautiful mountains, native flowers and of course that stunning clear, blue-skied weather!

It’s the perfect place to come and relax, get your head in the clouds and enjoy the wonders of the mountains and nature! You can enjoy a new summer experience or adventure like mountain biking, hiking to the top of Australia or simply kicking back, relaxing and indulging in the finer things like in life…music, food and wine…mmmmm. Check it out all the cool things you can do in Thredbo this summer, from adventures to events there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

 

Thredbo Walks & Hikes…Get outside and enjoy nature

It’s on! Thredbo’s official hiking season kicked off last weekend and it is looking incredible out there and will be for the whole of summer. From the ancient glacial lakes to wildflowers blooming left, right, centre…hiking around the Snowy Mountains is a unique experience everyone can enjoy, and if you haven’t conquered Mt. Kosciuszko yet, tick it off the bucket list! Checkout the video below from a guided hike a few guests did on the weekend

Whether it’s a family friendly hike to the top of Mt. Kosciuszko or an advanced day hike across the Australian Main Range, there’s something for every age and ability to enjoy. With tons of glacial lakes, unique flora and fauna and mountains as far as the eye can see, it’s a must do whilst visiting Thredbo throughout summer.

Fly Fishing in Thredbo…Some of the best trout fishing in Australia

Try fishing the Thredbo River…it’s trout galore! Thredbo River is home to some of the freshest trout in Australia. Enjoy the clarity and peace Thredbo offers as you cast a line and fish in the beautiful Snowy Mountains.

Thredbo Mountain Bike Park…Downhill, Cross-Country, All-Mountain & Flow…It’s got it all! 

Thredbo Mountain Bike Park is one of Australia’s premier mountain biking destinations and this summer it takes freeriding, cross country exploring and action to a whole new level and elevation. With a new trail network and revamped existing tracks there is 25 kilometres of epic riding to enjoy in Thredbo. From downhill, cross country, all-mountain and a BMX style pump track there is lots to love about riding in Thredbo this summer.

November 18-19: Thredbo Mountain Bike Park Opening Weekend

The opening weekend is set to be massive with live music, entertainment, non-stop riding and the official Mountain Bike Season Opening Party! If your a first timer on the bike or a seasoned pro, everyone is encouraged to join in on the fun celebrating the start of another epic mountain biking season.

December 6-10: The Cannonball Mountain Biking Festival

The biggest event on the Australian Mountain biking calendar hits Thredbo again for 2017 and it’s set to be bigger and better than ever. The top riders in the country, let alone international riders, head to Thredbo for 5 days of epic competition, huge prizes and sick partying. With 5 categories and your chance to witness some of the up-and-coming riders, along with plenty of sponsors, giveaways and did we mention huge prizes? This is one event you won’t want to miss.

Dec 23 – Jan 6: School Holidays Adventure Festival 

The School Holidays Adventure festival has a mountain of activities the whole family can enjoy. Slack lining, trampoline sessions, treasure hunts, skate park workshops, mountain bike pump track sessions, arts and crafts, rock-climbing, face painting and lots more….

There is plenty to do keeping the whole family flat out trying to keep up. We still have our bobsleds, swimming pool with water slide & mission inflatable and the Kosciuszko Express chairlift running  that is all included in the Thredbo All Mountain Pass.

January 19-21, 2018: Thredbo Blues Festival

The best of Australian and International blues comes to Thredbo yet again for a huge few days of music, intimate bars and restaurants and incredible outdoor venues as this unique festival takes over the village. With some of the country’s best blues artists, it’s a great excuse for a weekend escape to the beautiful scenery of the snowy mountains…make sure you keep up to date for the full lineup announcement here.

February 20, 2018: Craft Beer Festival

There’s nothing better than a cold one…let alone a whole day of them! Come and experience some of the finer points of brewing, or just get your taste buds around some of Australia’s best craft beers along with some awesome entertainment You can learn a thing or two as well – with a brewing demonstration  -and even try your hand in the home brew competition. Wrap the day up the right way with a “Beers, ales and tales” degustation dinner.

February 24-25, 2018: Thredbo Super Enduro

It’s the second year of the awesome Thredbo Super Enduro: the Big 3 gravity trails, 1 bike per person, 5 hours of riding… it’s a big day, but then the Super Enduro Champion isn’t awarded to just anyone. There are individual and team categories as racers test their skills, endurance and diversity across the 3 tracks, with the winner determined by the lowest combined time – anyone can be in your team so get a group of mates together and have a crack. March 10, 2018: High Country Wine & Cheese Festival

Wine and cheese: name a more iconic duo…or trio perhaps, wine, cheese, and the picturesque Snowy Mountains? Head to Thredbo for a relaxing summer getaway filled with some of the best things in life -by which of course we are referring to Australia’s ONLY cheese-rolling competition, mountains of wine and cheese-tasting (pun intended) and a luxe 5-course Progressive Dinner where your senses will be delighted by perfect wine pairings and delicious bites as you make your way through 5 of Thredbo’s best restaurants.
