The Snowy Ride

Posted on 22 Oct, 2017 in Festivals & Events

As the days grow longer and temperatures begin to warm up, it’s the perfect time to swap four wheels for two and hit the open road. With hundreds of kilometres of winding blacktop, the Snowy Mountains are a motorcyclist’s dream.

The 17th annual Snowy Ride is just around the next hairpin corner on Saturday 4th November and is a great opportunity to help raise vital funds for for research into a cure for childhood cancer.

Whether you ride a classic cruiser, a custom bobber or a stripped back caferacer, the Snowy Ride is a great day out with your mates, while all proceeds go towards the Steven Walter Children’s Cancer Foundation.

Don’t have your own hog? No problem! Thanks to Honda Motorcycles, a fleet of brand new bikes will be on offer with free test rides all day. You can choose your own route, with checkpoints dotted from Adaminaby to Dalgety, Berridale, Jindabyne, Cooma, Bombala, Charlotte Pass and Thredbo.

Just by entering in the $60 charity event, you automatically go into the draw to win one of two Honda motorcycles, a Honda Africa Twin 1000L ‘A’ model as first prize or a Honda CMX500 with a combined value of $25,000. A huge thanks to Honda Motorcycles for generously donating these machines to the Steven Walter Children’s Cancer Foundation.

As you pull into Thredbo Alpine Village, there are activities for everyone to enjoy. There are over 2,000 bikes to gawk at, live entertainment on the Friday and Saturday night, BBQ’s and tobogganing to get the blood pumping.

Running since 2001, the Snowy Mountain Ride has been a huge success by helping the Steven Walter Children’s Cancer Foundation raise over $7 million for children’s cancer research. Not only that but a portion of this money goes directly back into the Snowy Mountains community by helping volunteer community organisations.

Thredbo sits on the traditional land of the Monero – Ngarigo people who have looked after this land, water and community for over 60,000 years. We thank them for all they have done and continue to do to look after their country, a special place which we all love and respect.
