Festival & Celebrations
Monday 25 - Sunday 31 Jul, 2022
Environment week is dedicated to driving awareness with our guests, community and beyond about our environmental initiatives and what we can all be doing as a community to protect winter and Thredbo!
Do your part this Environment Week and buy a tree for $5 online or in-resort to offset your trip to the snow. Better yet, during Thredbo Environment Week we’ll match your donation tree for tree! On Tuesday the 26 July come join us for a morning hike to Mt Kosciuszko to raise awareness about Thredbo’s environmental initiatives and how we can work towards a more sustainable future, today.
Environment & Sustainability Night
Join us for drinks in the Kosci room on Monday evening as we open Environment Week with a series of presentations from a host of passionate environmental speakers. Huw Kingston will be talking about his Alpine Odyssey expedition where he plans to ski the entire length of the Australian Alps, stopping in at every resort.
The night will also play host to André Russ from EarthCheck and their presentation to Thredbo on achieving the EarthCheck Gold Certification.
We will finish the evening with a quick chat from our own environmental team with info on all the positive environmental movements happening in Thredbo and how you can do your part. The Thredbo Guides will round it out with some helpful pointers for the following days hike to the top of Kosci.
A raffle will be running on the evening with a bunch of cool North Face prizes up for grabs. Grab your tickets at the door with all proceeds go towards Huw Kingstons Alpine Odyssey movement.

Buy A Tree for $5 | Thredbo’s Matching Donations!
Buy a tree for $5 to offset your trip to the snow this season. Better yet, from 25 – 31 July during Thredbo Environment Week we’ll match your donation! Since 2014, Thredbo guests have offset almost 2,000 tonnes of carbon by planting over 7,200 trees at projects across Australia.
Green Caffeen Free Coffee Day
That’s right, you heard correctly! On 29 July, score yourself a free coffee while doing your part to save the environment. Thredbo has teamed up with Green Caffeen to raise awareness about their swap and go reusable coffee cup system.
Green Caffeen’s goal is to reduce the volume of coffee cups ending up in landfill, or littered in the environment. An increase in Green Caffeen cup usage directly links to this goal and in turn, a more beautiful & scenic Thredbo landscape for us all to enjoy.
All you need to do is download the Green Caffeen app, head on into the Friday Flat Bistro or Village Bakery, scan the cafe’s code to check your cup out and grab your free coffee in a Green Caffeen cup. Simple!
At Thredbo, we have harnessed the opportunity to lead our industry and our community toward a more sustainable future, today. Together with Red Energy and Snowy Hydro, we’re proud to be powering all our major resort operations with clean and renewable sources of energy, effective 1 July 2019. This is a positive addition to the long list of environmental initiatives that Thredbo takes pride in.
What You Can Do!
- Reduce & Reuse
- Reduce the need for single-use items.
- Bring a re-usable bag, a re-usable water bottle and re-usable coffee cup.
- Recycle and Buy Recycle
- Re-direct recyclable items away from landfill.
- Be A Conscious Consumer
- Try to avoid buying brand new gear each season. Check out the Op Shop!
- Try mending broken items rather than getting rid of them.
- Travel Smart to Reduce Your Emissions
- Buy a tree through Greenfleet for $5, offsetting your CO2 emissions from travel.
- Carpool on your journey, therefore sharing emissions between a number of people.
- Turn It Off!
- Turn lights and appliances off at the wall.
- Try putting the heating on a timer and make sure your home is suitably insulated for the winter.
- Food Waste
- Try to eat locally grown food and seasonal produce to reduce the carbon footprint of your plate.
- Compost scraps and leftovers into fertiliser for your garden.
Since 2009 Thredbo has partnered with Greenfleet to offset resort vehicle emissions including all fuel used to run our snow groomers and the resort shuttle buses. In total we have offset over 12,600 tonnes of carbon emissions by planting approximately 46,500 native trees.
On top of this, in a global first in 2014, Thredbo started a forestry carbon offset program for guests to contribute towards tree planting when buying lift products. In 2021, over 2,200 trees were purchased by guests to offset their drive to the mountains. This goes towards restoring Australian forests, drawing in carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and helping to regenerate natural ecosystems.
Keep it Cool
Keep it Cool is a local not-for-profit organisation committed to restoring and regenerating forest areas around the Snowy Mountains in order to fight climate change. Together, we plant native trees to offset carbon emissions.
Protect Our Winters
POW turns passionate outdoor people into effective climate advocates. We lead a community of athletes, thought pioneers and forward-thinking business leaders to affect systemic political solutions to climate change.
Thredbo has been awarded Gold EarthCheck Certification two years running! This internationally recognised environmental milestone is a first for an Australian snow resort and is awarded by EarthCheck, the world’s leading environmental certification and benchmarking program for the travel and tourism industry.
To achieve gold certification, Thredbo have met EarthCheck’s rigorous environmental standards across 10 key performance areas spanning greenhouse gas emissions, energy efficiency, conservation and management, land use planning and management and waste management.
