Join us at the Capital Brewery in Fyshwick to get immersed in all things backcountry. To celebrate the launch of winter and the return of Thredbo Backcountry Tours supported by The North Face, we’re hosting a backcountry info night with The North Face, featuring storytelling from Tess Coady, Janina Kuzma, and Michaela Davis-Meehan.
Learn about the backcountry basics and our tours on offer this winter from one of our experienced guides.
The night will also feature a screening of A Winter Affair: The Pursuit. In the Southern Hemisphere winter of 2021, Janina Kuzma set out with a goal to summit Mt Tasman and ski down the committing descent of the Stevenson-Dick Couloir, with Sam Smoothy by her side for the journey. The Pursuit explores the tremendous upskilling, mental and physical preparation required for a mission of this calibre, and follows the two on the challenging climb and gruelling descent down New Zealand’s second highest peak.
Our environmental partners at Keep It Cool will be selling raffle tickets, with proceeds going towards Keep It Cool’s rehabilitating the Snowy Mountains project. Buy a ticket to go into the draw to win a Thredbo Backcountry Tour and more.
The night kicks off from 6.30pm. Spots are limited.
If you can’t make it to Canberra, check out our other info nights in Sydney & Jindabyne.

Tess Coady
Thredbo Ambassador Tess Coady is at the top of the game in womens snowboarding, having just won a Bronze medal in Slopestyle at the 2022 Winter Olympics. Post Beijing, the 21 year old has been on a tear across the northern hemisphere winter and is looking to continue her form down under this season. Tess oozes style and despite spending most of her time in the park, she plans to take advantage of the supreme backcountry conditions right on Thredbo’s doorstep this winter.

Janina Kuzma
Janina Kuzma is a two time Winter Olympian, Freeride World Tour Competitor, NZMGA Mountain Ski Guide and Film producer. Janina is one of the top professional female skiers of her generation and is one of the most confident all-round skiers out there. Janina’s achievements in the half pipe and big mountain environment set her apart from any other athlete in the sport of skiing, male or female. She swims against the tide, establishing herself as a world class big mountain athlete years before going on to compete in half pipe at the Sochi Olympics Games, where she placed fifth in the finals. Janina now represents the highest standard of mountain professionalism as a registered mountain guide through the NZMGA.

Michaela Davis-Meehan
Born in Newcastle, a beach town in NSW, Australia, Michaela Davis-Meehan grew up making trips down to the snow fields of Australia to hone her craft in slopestyle snowboarding. After competing for years in slopestyle, including being crowned the World Rookie Champion, Michaela turned to freeride competitions, winning the Freeride World Qualifier Tour (FWQ) to secure a rare place as a Freeride World Tour (FWT) athlete. In 2020, Michaela finished ranked second in the world and is the only Australian, skier or snowboarder, to ever win a spot on the FWT. Last season, Michaela competed in the USA and Canada, winning the final event of the Finals Series at Kirkwood Mountain with some big cliff drops. She finished 3rd place overall in the America’s Tour.
Michaela loves getting out in the backcountry from Iran, to Revelstoke, to Thredbo, and she especially loves her adventures with The North Face. Western Faces is one of her favourite film projects made here in Australia, which showcases all the steeps and storms Australia has to offer. Michaela may be our number one ranked freerider in Australia, but her most loved environment is the backcountry with mates on a powder day.
