The season that keeps on giving.

Posted on 17 Jul, 2016 in Festivals & Events

It’s the season that keeps on giving. Late Tuesday afternoon the snow started to fall, hard… by Wednesday morning the village was coated in 40cm of snow, with a 70cm dump up top.

This was big.

Temperatures were arctic. -8 degrees at the top with a wind chill of -20. By the time the sun came up the snow was still falling, opening was delayed while the staff tried to keep up with the constant settling snow, digging out lifts, car parks and making sure things were safe up top!

People were saying it’s the biggest snowfall they had seen in the village in over 20 years. One local boy Ben Peatey was able to click into his bindings before he’d even left his doorstop and skied down to the village from his home in Crackenback Ridge.

Temperatures remained freezing right through Wednesday and Thursday, keeping the fresh snow light and dry and ridiculously good. Off piste was the pick, with huge pow stashes to be found. Friday and the sun came back to us, with a crisp bluebird day. The snow on offer was still phenomenal heading into the weekend, softening up on Saturday with the sunshine.

We saw school holidays off in style, with the Torah Bright Mini Shred kicking off on Saturday morning and over 100 mini shredders coming down to learn and play with the pros. Saturday afternoon and we had a surprise DJ set, with Hugo from Flight Facilites and Tom Tilley from Triple J sending us off into the late arvo in style, with the famous Flare Run Saturday night.

Sunday was another cracker, with lots of kids making the most of their last day off before school tomorrow! We can’t wait to kick off Uni Week next week…we’ll keep you posted!
