MTB School Holiday Camps

Specialty Kids Program

The MTB School Holiday Camps are a great way for kids to develop their gravity MTB skills in a fun, safe and controlled environment. Catering for beginner to advanced riders aged 5 – 13 years.

Students will work on the MTB fundamentals, gravity specific riding techniques, pump track skills and timed race sessions plus some valuable bike setup and maintenance workshops. Each group is assigned the same dedicated instructor for the entire duration of the camp for maximum progression.

Lift access not included, MTB Season Pass or 5 Day Lift Pass add on required to participate.

  • Location: Low intermediate (blue) to advanced (black) gravity trails in the MTB Park
  • Time: 9:30am – 3:30pm Daily

The School Holiday Camps have beginner, intermediate & advanced levels.

Beginner

The beginner group is for riders looking to learn the fundamentals of gravity mountain biking in a safe and controlled environment. Utilising the beginner gravity trails including Easy Rider & Sidewinder, the group will work with their instructor on the correct body position, braking control, gear selection and trail speed. The goals for the group is to work towards comfortably riding the intermediate trails in the park including Ricochet, Kosciuszko Flow & Paparazzi.  Riders in the beginner group should have some off-road riding experience.

Intermediate

The intermediate group is for riders looking to improve their technique, build confidence and gain an introduction into more advanced trails & features. The group will work with their instructor on perfecting cornering techniques, introducing line choice, increasing speed through rough terrain & developing jump & drop techniques. The goals for the group is to work towards riding the Cannonball Downhill & successfully compete across all events in the MTB Interschool’s. Riders in the intermediate group should be confident on Sidewinder and the Kosciuszko Flow Trail.

Advanced

The Advanced clinic is for riders looking to increase speed through rock gardens & steeper terrain and advancing skills on larger jumps & drops. It will also provide an insight into technical line choices, aggressive riding positions & race preparation. This is ideal for riders who are looking to boost their confidence on black trails including Cannonball Downhill or hoping to start competing competitively. Participants should be confident on all intermediate trails & features in the park.

9:30am: Meet your instructor at the Special Programs flag at the base of the Kosciuszko chairlift.. View Map
9:45am: Warm-up session
10:15am: Gravity Skills Session
12:15pm: Lunch
1:00pm: Gravity Skills Session
3:00pm: Debrief and review of skills improvement from the day
3:30pm: Pick up at the base of Kosciuszko Chairlift

Please note: The daily schedule is weather dependent and may include Thredbo Leisure Centre sessions (entry included).

Gear List
  • Your MyThredbo Card loaded with a MTB Season Pass or 5 Day Lift Pass
  • Comfortable riding clothes including MTB riding shorts or pants
  • Dual suspension mountain bike with disc brakes is highly recommended. However a mountain bike with front suspension and two functional brakes with handle bar levels (no back pedal brakes) is the minimum requirement
  • Protective equipment – Helmet (full-face highly recommended), knee pads, elbow guards, gloves, goggles and sturdy closed toe shoes
  • Small backpack or hydration pack with extra layers and wet weather gear
  • Water
