Thredbo’s Environmental Initiatives…
Posted on 17 Oct, 2018
We love our playground and we sure want to protect it!
Thredbo understands the unique nature of the environment around us, in collaboration with residents, guests and local businesses we are all concentrating on operating in a manner that doesn’t harm our local environment.
With a primary focus towards resource conservation, renewable energy use, recycling, waste reduction, lowering emissions and increasing awareness. We aim to preserve, protect and prioritise the mountain and its surrounding environment we all love so much.
Did you know?
- Thredbo 100% offset all lifting and snowmaking electricity for winter 2018 thanks to a unique partnership with Arnhem Land Fire Abatement (ALFA) Project\
- Thredbo is the inaugural Australian partner of POW and its goal in collaborating is to raise awareness towards the impact of climate change on our mountain environment and to continuously improve Thredbo’s environmental performance. Since Thredbo joined in July last year it has continued to place environmental issues at the top of its agenda and implemented a number of initiatives to help reduce the human impact of the environment
- In 2009 Thredbo partnered with Greenfleet to offset the carbon emissions from its entire fleet of cars and snow groomers. And in 2014, in what was a global first at the time, started a forestry carbon offset program with Greenfleet for guests where visitors can offset their car emissions from their journey to Thredbo by purchasing a $4.00 Greenfleet tree on Thredbo’s eStore.

Thredbo sits on the traditional land of the Monero – Ngarigo people who have looked after this land, water and community for over 60,000 years. We thank them for all they have done and continue to do to look after their country, a special place which we all love and respect.
