Thredbo has won Best Australian Ski Resort for families at the Out & About with Kids annual Readers’ Choice Awards for six consecutive years, Australia’s Best Ski Resort at the World Ski Awards for seven years in a row and Best Australian Resort at the Snowsports Industries of Australia Awards for the second year in a row.

Conveniently accessed by car, bus or plane, Thredbo is located in the heart of the Kosciuszko National Park in the Snowy Mountains, NSW.

Roughly a 5.5-hour drive from either Sydney or Melbourne and a 2.5-hour drive from Canberra, Thredbo offers free day and overnight car parking facilities.

Skiing and Snowboarding

Thredbo is the ultimate skiing and snowboarding destination for all ages and abilities. Beginners will love Friday Flat, a fun and safe environment designed for skill progression. Intermediate and advanced skiers and snowboarders will have fun exploring the wide variety of terrain including Australia’s longest ski runs.

Merritts Gondola

Home to Australia’s only alpine gondola, Thredbo makes it fast and easy to get on the mountain or up to Merritts Mountain House. The Merritts Gondola is a high-speed, eight-person Gondola that takes skiers, snowboarders and scenic passengers from the Village to the base of the Cruiser Area in approximately 6 minutes.

Australia’s Newest Ski Lift – Freddie’s Snowrunner

This winter, Thredbo welcomed Australia’s newest ski lift; Freddie’s Snowsports Snowrunner. Taking the resort’s total number of lifts to 15, it is one of the country’s longest snow runners at 98 metres long. Dedicated to our new Kids Learning area, Freddie’s Snowrunner travels through a tunnel to protect skiers and riders from the elements and will be a game changer for beginner lessons at Thredbo!

Snowshoe Tours

They say if you can walk, you can snowshoe. Walk across the snow and into the big white yonder as you are guided to some interesting features and landmarks in Australia’s winter wonderland. This is perfect for those who are looking for a soft adventure with some incredible views of the Australian Main Range.

Restaurants & More

Located within walking distance from the base of the mountain, Thredbo’s European-style village offers a great range of bars, restaurants, cafes and shops. In the evening, the village comes to life with live music and entertainment for visitors to enjoy with family and friends.

Thredbo Leisure Centre

Located just a 5-minute walk from Thredbo Village Square, the Thredbo Leisure Centre offers a wide range of activities for everyone to enjoy. With a waterslide, Mission Inflatable, a heated pool, table tennis, trampoline sessions, an indoor sports hall, a bouldering wall, a squash court and a weights gym, Thredbo Leisure Centre is jam-packed with fun for kids and adults alike.

Kids Disc Golf

Disc Golf is a fun activity for the whole family to do together in Thredbo. Head over to the stunning Thredbo Golf Course to see who’s got what it takes to be the new king or queen of the disc!

Saturday Night Flare Run & Fireworks Spectacular

Gather your friends and family to watch Thredbo’s iconic Flare Run and Fireworks Spectacular. An iconic Thredbo experience for over 30 years, watch our expert skiers and snowboarders wind their way down Supertrail with flares before the sky comes to life with fireworks that dance across the mountain. Held every Saturday night during winter (weather dependent), the Flare Run and Fireworks Spectacular is a magical way to finish a great day in Thredbo.

Thredbo Kids Snow Festivals

Kids run the mountain during the July and September school holidays with Thredbo’s Kids Snow Festivals. Featuring a specially curated line-up of family-friendly activities plus lots of après for mum and dad, families can enjoy movie and pizza nights, special kid’s flare runs, fireworks and loads more activities on and off the mountain.

Merritts Mountain Haus Feasts

Ride under the stars in Australia’s Only Alpine Gondola to Merritts Mountain House to enjoy a family-friendly Bavarian-inspired feast on select evenings throughout winter! Bookings are essential.

Thredbo has one of the best snowsports schools in Australia and offers a variety of lessons and programs to suit all ages and abilities.

With Thredboland for the little ones (3 – 6-year-olds), Adventure Camps for mini-shredders aged 5 – 12 and Freeriders for kids under 14, Thredbo offers a skiing and snowboarding program to suit every child. Led by an outstanding team of instructors, these programs are the best possible opportunity for children to build their skills and confidence while having fun. When they’re not ripping up the trails, kids can enjoy a special menu of children’s meals plus a schedule of fun activities with their new ski buddies.

Lessons from Thredbo’s highly qualified instructors are a great way for both adults and children to work on their skiing or snowboarding skills. Thredbo offers a range of group and private lesson options to suit every age and ability.

Thredbo Alpine Coaster

Coming winter 2024!

Construction is underway for the Southern Hemisphere’s first-ever year-round Alpine Coaster, set to open in winter this year!

At 1.5km in length, from thrill-seekers to leisure cruisers, passengers will be able to control their speed of up to 40km/h as they travel along a mix of uphill and downhill tracks featuring a tunnel, bridges and circles that traverse the alpine environment.

To ride the Alpine Bobsled on your own you must be 8 years of age or older and over 135cms tall. For the kids aged 3 to 8, you double up with a responsible person over 15 years. Frequently asked questions

Winter Lift Passes

A full day lift pass provides mountain lift access for skiing and snowboarding at Thredbo, including Merritts Gondola.

We encourage guests to pre-purchase passes online and pick up passes at our 24-7 MyThredbo Card Kiosks.

MyThredbo Card is required. During checkout you can reload to your existing card or add one to your cart ($5).
