Incredible storm hits Thredbo

Posted on 24 Jun, 2016 in Festivals & Events

Arriving in for the 6am radio report there was minimal coverage at village level…but over the next several hours no one, not even the weather reports could have truly predicted just how much heavy snowfall we would receive in such a short amount of time.

Within 2 hours the resort was completely covered white and in less then 12 hours we had recorded well over 60cms of new snowfall up top, up to 20cms down in village and plenty in-between, with over 40cms mid-mountain.

Thanks to this beautiful storm, the Cruiser Area and High Noon are all set to make their season debut tomorrow. We can’t wait to get our ski legs warmed up on Australia’s longest open runs, so we’ll see you out there!
Also, it’s good to see you, snow. I know our relationship hasn’t been the best over the last couple of weeks, but last night was amazing and I hope we can stay together all winter long.

Thredbo sits on the traditional land of the Monero – Ngarigo people who have looked after this land, water and community for over 60,000 years. We thank them for all they have done and continue to do to look after their country, a special place which we all love and respect.
