Thredbo Snow Series Slopestyle 2016

Posted on 19 Aug, 2016 in Festivals & Events

How’s your Slopestyle?

Full steam ahead for the Thredbo Snow Series with the Slopestyle event going down in Antons Park. Competitors were greeted by blue skies but there was a little wind to contend with. It was a tail wind so undeterred the eager shredders put on a show for judges and spectators alike.

Especially for the event the Antons Park set up was tweaked to cater for the diverse range of abilities attending. The first feature was a jump with two take off options… 20 foot and 30 foot long. Feature number two was another jump with dual take offs… 25 foot and 35 foot. After the jumps the riders had two jib pads each with three options. Jib pad one had a flat hero box, a flat bar rail and an A frame tube to choose from. The second jib pad offered a choice of a flat down box, a street style down tube and a rainbow tube. Plenty of variety allowing creativity and the opportunity to impress the ever watchful judges.

Practice started ahead of schedule allowing extra time to dial in the features and put together a potential winning run. After some quick course maintenance from the Thredbo Parks crew the riders got down to business. With two judged runs and the best being counted, competition tactics is crucial. The Thredbo and Aussie locals represented throwing down. Several surprise international guests spiced things up, pushing the level of riding through the roof. The Japanese Burton team were particularly impressive stomping an array smooth and technical tricks. Victor White representing Barbados was a crowd favourite wowing the assembled masses bolting down a right side nine among other stylish snow stunts.

The judges had their work cut out for them. After careful consideration and thorough discussion the riders were ranked. Lots of smiles on the podium as the stoked winners received their prizes and posed for the obligatory photos. It was great to see the competitors cheering and supporting each other.
