Racers from Around the World Fight It Out for Olympic Positions in Thredbo

Next week, donāt think youāre seeing things if you spy an Australian, Swedish or Austrian Pro Skier wandering around Thredbo Village ā chances are youāre right. Thredbo is hosting the first part of the Australia New Zealand Continental Cup Series from August 21 -24. The ANC Cup is one of 5 worldwide Continental Cups which sit just below the peak events, the World Cup series, and are important events for racers trying to qualify for their Nationās Winter Olympic team, announced in January 2018 for next yearās Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.

If you want to learn a thing or two about racing, Thredbo is the place to be next week, with numerous Olympians and a combined total of 778 World Cup starts between the talented pro athletes who will be here competing. The ANC Cup is a worldwide event and youāll be witnessing the Austrian team, Canadian, German, Polish, Japanese, New Zealand, American and of course our own Australian national team fight it out in 2 days of Giant Slalom and 2 days of Slalom racing, with 8 nations represented in the womens division and 18 nations in the mens. Donāt be star struck if you come across Canadian Olympians Phil Brown and Trevor Phillip and keep an eye out for the Swedish womenās team, who have an impressive 650 World Cup starts between just six athletes.

Also on the line is the Thredbo Cup which gets awarded to the best racer of day oneās slalom and giant slalom races. The racing will start at 8.30am every morning from Monday August 21, so make sure youāre up and at emā first thing ready on the sidelines with your cowbells and cheersā¦because if youāre too slow, blink and you might just miss them!
