Over 60 Aboriginal Youth Shred Up Thredbo!

Posted on 13 Sep, 2018

The Australian Indigenous Alpine Sport Foundation (AIASF) brought over 60 disadvantaged Aboriginal youth to Thredbo to promote participation in Alpine Sports, aiming to highlight how skiing, snowboarding and other alpine activities can be used in positive ways.

Everyone had an amazing day, with instructors teaching each kid how to shred up the slopes, learning in a safe and progressive environment.

The foundation’s main objective is to offer the youth the opportunity to try and become involved in sports such as skiing and snowboarding, so they can use it as a tool for later in life! Kids that love the snow and show a willingness to learn are given the opportunity to succeed, train and participate in skiing or snowboarding at a competitive level…RAD!

They also offer employment opportunities for participants in their program once they have completed high school, showing them the benefits of spending a season in the snow and the opportunities that come with it.

Thredbo sits on the traditional land of the Monero – Ngarigo people who have looked after this land, water and community for over 60,000 years. We thank them for all they have done and continue to do to look after their country, a special place which we all love and respect.
