Thredbo Becomes First Destination in Asia-Pacific to Achieve EarthCheck Platinum Certification

Thredbo Resort, supported by EVT, has reached a major sustainability milestone, becoming the first destination in the Asia-Pacific region to achieve EarthCheck Platinum Destination Certification.

The internationally recognised certification celebrates more than a decade of independently verified environmental, social and governance performance, recognising ten consecutive years of annual benchmarking, auditing and continuous improvement against global best-practice standards.

The achievement reflects Thredbo’s long-term commitment to protecting the unique alpine environment while continuing to deliver world-class mountain experiences for guests year-round.

A Decade of Measurable Progress

Over the past ten years, Thredbo has delivered measurable improvements across energy, waste, biodiversity, community engagement and destination management.

Key initiatives include:

❄️Transitioning to 100% renewable electricity.

❄️Launching the Sustainable Snowies local procurement program to support regional businesses and strengthen local supply chains.

❄️Continuing to improve environmental performance through independent annual benchmarking and certification.

A Commitment to the Future

Thredbo Resort General Manager Stuart Diver said the certification recognises the dedication of the resort’s team and partners over more than a decade.

“This achievement reflects more than ten years of commitment from our passionate team and partners to continually improve the way we operate,” said Mr Diver.

“Protecting the alpine environment is fundamental to everything we do and continues to be a priority. EarthCheck is an internationally recognised framework to measure our progress, challenge ourselves to do better, and ensure we’re stewarding the alpine environment for future generations.”

EVT Head of Sustainability Katharine Hopper said the milestone also represents an important achievement for the wider EVT Group.

The certification is being celebrated as part of Thredbo Environment Week (13–19 July), reinforcing the resort’s ongoing commitment to protecting the mountains that make Thredbo so special.
