UniSport Nationals Snow returns to Thredbo from 31 Aug – 2 September where Australia’s best university students battle it out on the slopes in the four sports of alpine, freestyle, cross-country skiing and snowboard to find which universities will be crowned champions!

Competition Guidelines and Rules

UniSport Australia (UniSport) competitions are conducted under the official playing regulations of the relevant international or national sporting organisation. Where required, UniSport guidelines will indicate any rule/regulation amendments specific to our competitions.

FAQs

Super G
Super G is a speed event where each athlete completes one run down the course with their finish time determining the final order based on ascending time.
Format: One run
Date, time and location coming soon. 

Giant slalom
Each athlete completes two runs on the same day on different courses. It is a technical event with a longer course and fewer gates than the slalom. The number of gates is determined by the vertical drop of the course.
Format: Best of 2 runs. Second run: reversed order.
Date, time and location coming soon.

Slalom
Each athlete completes two runs on the same day on different courses. Times from the two runs are added together to determine the final order based on ascending total time. It is technical event over a shorter course than other alpine events but with a high number of gates that the athlete must negotiate.
Format: Best of 2 runs. Second run: reversed order

Slopestyle
In slopestyle, athletes ski down a course including a variety of obstacles including rails, jumps, and other terrain park features. Points are scored for amplitude, originality and quality of tricks.
Format: Best of 2 runs – straight finals.

Skiercross
Despite its being a timed racing event, skier cross is often considered part of freestyle skiing because it incorporates terrain features traditionally found in freestyle. Skier cross courses have both naturally occurring terrain and artificial features including big-air jumps and high-banked turns.
Format: Best of 2 runs qualification then top 8 elimination finals.

Moguls
Mogul skiing is a competition consisting of free skiing on a steep, heavily moguled course, stressing technical turns, aerial manoeuvres and speed.
Format: Best of 2 runs qualification then 8 person finals.
Scoring: Turns 60%, Air 20%, Speed 20%

Rails
Rails come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Athletes perform tricks which are scored based on difficulty, style and execution.
Format: Random start order, no finals. Competitors can attempt as many scored runs during event as possible. Result is determined by best score.
Format: Best of 2 runs – straight finals.

Super G

Rails
Rails come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Athletes perform tricks which are scored based on difficulty, style and execution.
Format: Best of 2 runs – straight finals.

Individual
Cross-country skiing is a form of skiing where skiers rely on their own locomotion to move across snow-covered terrain. In the individual event, both men and women will compete over a 4-5km course.
Format: Freestyle, mass start.​ Distance 4-5km. One lap is approximately 1250m.

​Team relay
The team relay event will encompass three individuals each completing 1km in a relay-style fashion.
Format: Freestyle, mass start. 3 x 1.25km
