Powering the Future: Explore Energy with Power Peak!

Ready to discover how the snow beneath your boots is the key to creating electricity that powers our grid? This Thredbo Environment Week, Snowy Hydro’s Snowy STEM Academy is excited to launch Power Peak, a brand-new interactive online education game designed to build essential energy literacy in a fun, hands-on way.

In the game, players guide an adventurous wombat on skis down a mountain. This playful journey serves as a clever metaphor for water traveling down the Snowy Mountains and rushing through turbines to generate renewable electricity. When the ride ends, getting the wombat back up the chairlift requires strategic choices and an investment of energy from the players, teaching kids exactly what it takes to balance power generation and consumption.

At our interactive workshop, kids will get to play the game and even construct physical, real-world ski runs for their wombat to test the most efficient ways to transfer energy. This activity launches the very first unit of the “Foundations of energy” module, part of our comprehensive energy literacy syllabus. Designed to empower all Australians to understand where electricity comes from and make sustainable, real-world choices, this initiative is a vital step toward a greener tomorrow.
