It was 17 year old US National Freeski Team member Alex Hall who took home the top spot of the AFP Gold Event with his world first Switch Triple Corked 1800.

Not to be outdone, Norwegian teen sensation Birk Rudd came in a close 2nd with another World first Switch Corked 1620 which has never been seen in competition before. The podium was rounded out by the current 2016 X-Game Gold medalist, Swiss skier Fabian Bösch who landed a clean Triple Corked 1620 of his own.

The 18 deep starting field were split into two heats under perfect spring conditions, where the top five of each heat progressed into the final. Accompanied by Swiss Skier Jonas Hunziker and Norway’s Klaus Finne, who after sitting on the bubble were given final wildcard spots; the 12 finalists battled out to a best of two run conclusion in the snow gum surrounded New South Wales High Country.

Australia’s own Ryley Lucas was the only Aussie in the all-international final and wrapped up 12th place only just having come from wrist surgery only days before the event.

After taking top honors in the first round heat, Canadian Noah Morrison was faced with trying to land his double corked 1080 with only one ski as his bindings released on takeoff. Showing true skill, he was able to set down the 37-degree landing slope without too much strain as the 500 strong crowd watched on in awe.

Returning athlete Evan McEachran from Canada, who finished 10th; stated “it’s the biggest jump on the tour and it’s run by people who know how to create an atmosphere where progression happens. Every year we come down here just waiting to see the future of skiing go down on that thing.”

It wasn’t just on mountain though, with a huge lineup of artists playing over two nights for the Corona Concert Series. Unfortunately the weather didn’t come to the party, and Friday night’s poolside was moved into the Keller Bar, with Sweet Mix Kids and Gypsy and the Cat playing epic sets.

Saturday night and the Corona Concert Series was back for round two, with Safia, CastleComer, and Sweet Mix Kids unleashing an electrifying set to a packed out Kosciuszko Room.

Despite the weather, it was a great week, full of tricks, tramp sessions, world firsts and plenty of parties.
