The First week of Spring: a Big Air Bluebird Affair

This week, the Snow Series returned to Thredbo and it was BIG! Competitors in the Big Air and Slopestyle events put on a show…as did the weather, with a string of heavenly bluebird days  making for some beautiful skiing to kick off spring.

The blue sunny skies have made for some lovely skiing and boarding – iconically Australian. The snow has been in great shape – with fresh snow last Sunday the conditions this week have been great and held well under the sun. Antons and Sponars have definitely been the picks this week for both some fast groomed carving and terrain park action.

As for the Big Air – the clear skies were like a canvas against which the riders as artists painted their jibbing works on the famous Q5 jump at the world class Antons terrain park. The highlight was the impressive air time and tricks up the sleeves of the groms and juniors out there, hitting the decent sized jump like pros.

Slopestyle was equally impressive, with the competitors showing off their versatility in hitting a number of different types of features. We had some of the country’s hottest talents out there, from groms right up to adults and with the tricks ranging from flips to spins and everything in between, it certainly made for some good entertainment.

With snow in the forecast for the week ahead, we will say a little goodbye to the bluebird week we’ve had, and hello to some awesome conditions for spring! Make sure you stay up to date and check out the lineup of events – plenty more yet to come this season.
