Go Big or Go Home: Snow Series Big Air Wrap Up

Posted on 6 Sep, 2017 in Thredbo Parks

Thredbo Snow Series Big Air means big thrills and with the overall series crowns also up for grabs, the excitement levels were through the roof. The always popular Q5 jump measures in at 45 foot to the knuckle and with a long landing competitors were able to send it! To cover the diversity of abilities in the event a smaller take off was pushed up measuring in at 20 foot. After warming up in practice each athlete got two jumps with the best jump counted as the scorer.

Nestled in the trees and tucked in the Q5 bowl, the always popular Q5 jump sits in a natural amphitheater. It provides plenty of prime real estate for spectators to sit back and take in the spectacle. By the time the event kicked off, the surrounding slopes were lined with supportive onlookers. As the action heated up crowd favourites were found. Big tricks are always appreciated and you’ve got to spin to win… but it was great to see the crowd responding to stylish airs as well. The groms and the junior competitors also proved to be popular, many hitting the Q5 jump for the first time. In fact only a handful of riders opted for the smaller jump option further demonstrating the high level of riding throughout the series. When you’re 3 feet tall 45 feet is a long way to fly!

With the bucket load of bangers and a heap of dropped hammers the judges, as always had the unenviable task of choosing the winners. Yet again the spirit of the Thredbo Snow Series was apparent with the super supportive shredders stoking each other out on the podium. Shout out to the GoPro prize winners… Sunny Steele took a brutal beating in practice and Cyril Peirrel blew minds bolting down a switch double back flip!

Big Air the final Thredbo Snow Series event is all wrapped up. To find out the overall series winners stay tuned for the full wrap up. Thanks to our amazing series sponsors Peg, Burton, Go Pro, Rhythm Snowsports and Rossignol… you guys rock!
