A JAM-POW, Hot Dub, Heart-filled, Bell-Ringer of a Week

Posted on 30 Jul, 2017

This week was sweet as…sweet as Jye’s Jam in fact. And by that I’m not only referring to the massive rail event Thredbo hosted this week, but the associated jam (yes, we went all out and made actual Jye’s Jam #dedication), along with the sweet-as fresh powder accompanied , a beautiful silent flare run for Memorial Weekend and of course to squished yet another event in the Hot Dub with the rad Heineken Village party on Saturday night featuring Hot Dub Time Machine.

Don’t worry, after the week we’ve had if that sentence was too jam-packed for you to comprehend, you’re not alone…fear not, for I shall explain it all in energetic, enviable detail below.

Firstly: let’s get to the JAM in jam-packed: JYE’S JAM

There’s no rail event like it – for the second year Thredbo hosted Jye’s Jam, the sweet-as rail event that was even bigger and better than last year, featuring 10 of the best riders in the southern hemisphere, hand selected by the Jye himself. The winning jammer has the privilege of getting toasted: i.e. their name engraved on the precious piece of Jye’s Jam toast (sourdough I’m told). It was an insane night of entertainment and big hits… now the only challenge is for jammers to go bigger and better next year.

It was a week of POW

At Thredbo, we LOVE WINTER… and we know you do too, so Thredbo has taken a massive step as the inaugural Australian partner of POW (Protect Our Winters) to make sure that pow-lovers have years of Thredbo Stoke to come. Professional snowboarder and founder of POW Jeremy Jones hosted an incredible informative and entertaining night to launch the Thredbo-POW Partnership and raise awareness on the impact of climate change on our precious snow climate, and what we can do to help protect it. In the words of Jeremy himself, if we want our kids to be able to LOVE WINTER in the same we we do… “it’s all of you in this room tonight (or reading this blog today) that are going to help protect winter”. Adding to the pow-levels this week…If you thought Friday was already Friyay…try Friyay POWDER DAY! Thredbo showed up your standard Friday excitement and we woke to bluebird day and a village blanketed in freshhhhh snow, and as they say – nothing beats a powder day! The sky was clear as a bell, clear as the Thredbo Community Bell in fact, and it was the perfect sun-drenched day to ring the Community Bell at the top of Karel’s T-Bar: Australia’s Highest Lifted Point.

Let’s fit one more night of stoke in the Hot Dub…

Let’s be honest, Saturdays in Thredbo are notoriously LIT. This week was no exception, and for two reasons. Firstly, we had the stunningly beautiful Commemorative Silent Flare Run in memorial of 20 years since the Thredbo Road Collapse, which was as powerful as it was magical, ending with a special fireworks display. The Thredbo community really is as full of love for eachother as it is for love of the snow, and it’s in moments like these that we see it shine (literally).

To finish the week, and the night off, we all got in the Hot Dub Time Machine for a lit night of partying at the Heinekin Village Concert which went off like a pair of 80s hotpants. In true celebration of 60 years of Thredbo, the world-famous legend of festivals Hot Dub Time Machine took us on a crazy musical journey through 60 years of banging tunes to wrap up what was once again an absolute ripper of a week. Watch this space as we continue our run of stoked-as weeks with second First Base Party next Saturday August 5 featuring the country’s hottest act: Confidence Man.

Get ready for another jam-packed week next week with another huge events lineup.

Thredbo sits on the traditional land of the Monero – Ngarigo people who have looked after this land, water and community for over 60,000 years. We thank them for all they have done and continue to do to look after their country, a special place which we all love and respect.
