One final weekend of goggle tanning, pond-skimming and Oktoberfesting to finish the season with a bang!

Are you already experiencing the famous Thred-FOMO? Worried that the winter season is coming to an end? Fear not – for you can join us for one final all-out long weekend of stoke packed with spring shredding, beer drinking Oktoberfesting, pond-skimming and of course the esstial goggle-tanning, so you can go home and brag to all your mates about it. Here’s what we’ve got in stall for the final long weekend of the 2017 winter season in Thredbo…

Spring shreddin’ and goggle-tannin’

Thanks to a fresh dumping of powder at the start of September and the rad winter of snow, this year has an awesome base which has set us up for some of the best spring skiing we’ve seen in years.  The coverage is excellent and you can still make your way around pretty much the entire mountain. The soft snow is fun for a carve, with the lovely mild weather ideal for perfecting that goggle tan and of course cracking open a cold one after all that hard work skiing (the next event might be a good place to start…)

Oktoberfest

Did someone say crack open a cold one? How about getting your hands on a stein or two? Get out your lederhosen (or go buy some specifically for this occasion – bonus points for effort, see image below if you don’t know what I’m talking about) because we’ve got a FREE Oktoberfest poolside BBQ with live rock music and full of all the great German things we love: German beer, German food, German Beer…etc, on Saturday 30 Sept at the Thredbo Alpine Hotel. With all that beer, I’m sure you won’t need to be tempted into the heated pool and spa (but you might want to swap the lederhosen for swimmers). If you want to go full-schnitzel, then you’d better book into the authentic German feast at Cascades restaurant on Sunday, complete with traditional stein hosting competition, German games (whatever that may entail) and Oompa band. Contact (02) 6459 4200 or email tahreception@evt.com to book in.

The famous Pond Skim

A weekend wouldn’t be going off with a bang without a Pond Skim. On Saturday September 30, please come dressed in your best chicken suit/ bowling pin outfit/ boardies/ whatever else sets you up for the ultimate challenge of skimming your way on your skis or board across the pond. Get across the pond the first time to advance to the finals, where you’ll be given a score out a 50 with points awarded for actually making it across (20 points on offer), costume (15 points) and style and crowd response (make sure you bring all your rowdiest mates for this one – they could earn you up to another 15 points) with prizes for the winners, including best costume and best splash.

It’s the final weekend to celebrate out 60th season so bake sure you get down for one last hoorah… because before you know it it’ll be over and you’ll have to wait until next year to do it all again!
