Taking (Board) stock of another banked week in Thredbo

Posted on 17 Sep, 2017

After another week it’s time to take stock of the stoke once again – BOARDstock that is, it was a huge weekend of celebrating 31 years of all things boardin’. But that’s not all, it was a big week all round of bluebirds and fresh snow.

Add it to the bank – fresh snow
This spring has been the least spring-like in a long time, and this week winter once again wanted to take over, bringing us 3days of light snowfall to give the mountain a nice top up with a fresh 17cm in total. Combined with winds bringing in some nice drifty patches up the top to hit up, conditions are looking great for the rest of spring with awesome coverage. The snow came just in time for Burton Chill, a fantastic initiative which gets school groups out on the mountain…and they had an absolute ball!

One more hit!
Monday morning saw a spectacular sunrise, perfect conditions for to hit up the One Hit Wonder jump just one last time (you can’t blame us can you?)… now THAT’S a lot of air time! Even the moon stayed up a little longer to watch as some of the gnarliest riders went soaring into the sky. Yes don’t worry – all landed back on earth safely.

Taking stock: Boardstock
Well it might have been delayed, but that certainly didn’t put a dampener on the rad weekend that was all things boardin’ – the Volcom Pro boarding team were in town (surf, skate and snow) and kicked things off by putting on a skate demo, showing us some rad footage and just being generally awesome. Next it was Sausage Fest Saturday with a sick-as ride day up at Antons park where riders were chasing prizes on a stick (literally).

It was a BLUEBIRD Sunday with incredible weather – heaps of sun and awesome conditions for the Banked Slalom which was run up at the Playground at the Cruiser area. Probably our first proper spring day after winter’s attempt to come back this year, and we were loving it. Blue skies, 100% of the mountain open and some epic riding (and ever better outfits) up at the Banked Slalom.

With spring skiing still well and truly kicking and the infamous Pondskim coming up, there’s still plenty more happening right up until the end of the season so make sure you don’t miss out!
