Thank you Thredbo Ski Patrol…

Posted on 13 Oct, 2017

It’s been one of those winters both on and off the mountain that we’ll remember for a very, very long time…Blizzard of Oz, record breaking snowfalls, super September and some incredible powder days. The mountain was really turning it on this winter and boy did we make the most of it!

Behind the beautiful blank white canvas that is Thredbo, there are a team of people, who winter after winter, prove to always be the real MVP’s towards making it such a special season and most importantly, a SAFE season…Thredbo Ski Patrol, thank you!

These guys and girls are up at the crack of dawn to ensure the mountain is safe and ready for another big day of skiing and boarding the slopes. From signing, fencing and roping to evaluating the weather conditions and looking out for hazardous factors, keeping people safe throughout the day and making sure everyone is home safe at the end of the day…it’s definitely not a job for the faint hearted.

The Thredbo Ski Patrol originally formed in 1958, when a group of ski enthusiasts including Tommy Tomasi decided to offer first aid assistance and rescue services for all guests skiing Thredbo. Fast forward 60 years and the Thredbo Ski Patrol today has over 85 members and the coolest thing of all…Tommy Tomasi has only just recently hung up his red jacket…at the ripe age of 91! He still shreds the slopes up most days…#lifegoals.

The Snowsports Industry Awards took place in Canberra last week, hosted by Australia’s most successful Winter Paralympian, Michael Milton, where Tommy Tomasi was officially inducted into the SIA Hall of Fame…a true legend of the Australian snowsports community!

Thank you again Thredbo Ski Patrol for a safe and stoked filled season. Bring on Winter 2018!

Thredbo sits on the traditional land of the Monero – Ngarigo people who have looked after this land, water and community for over 60,000 years. We thank them for all they have done and continue to do to look after their country, a special place which we all love and respect.
