The Weather Guy – The Calm After the Storm

Posted on 9 Aug, 2017 in Weather Forecast

What a week it’s been! The #BlizzardOfOz has gone above and beyond and Thredbo has never looked so good!

Over 130cm of fresh powder fell between Thursday night and Monday night followed by a spectacular bluebird day on Tuesday for us all to get out there and get stuck into it.

A high pressure ridge is dominating much of southeastern Australia leading to another beautiful day of light winds and with no shortage of sunshine. It’s the perfect time to make the most of the awesome snow that fell over the weekend and get some powder turns in.

The next front is set to approach from the west on Thursday, with gusty northwesterly winds strengthening as it nears. At this stage, conditions are likely to stay dry before snow flurries begin falling in the early hours of Friday morning. The freezing level looks to drop quickly as the morning wears on with snow expected to fall to around 1300m.

Light isolated flurries should stick around on Saturday as the tail end of the system moves over the Snowy Mountains giving the slopes and nice top up.

A weak ridge of high pressure should build briefly on Sunday ahead of the next front early next week.

All up, we’re looking at around 5-10cm falling across the resort by this time next week keeping the slopes in tip top shape!

Thredbo sits on the traditional land of the Monero – Ngarigo people who have looked after this land, water and community for over 60,000 years. We thank them for all they have done and continue to do to look after their country, a special place which we all love and respect.
