The Weekly Wrap: A Fluffy-Flaked Fairytale

Posted on 23 Jul, 2017

This is the story of an awesome adrenaline-filled week. A week of shredding, fresh snow, bluebird days and almost too much stoke to handle…nah just kidding, you can NEVER have too much stoke in Thredbo!

We started off this week starry-eyed and hopeful of good snow storms to come. The clouds came and settled, and on Tuesday the snow flurries started, bringing us an awesome top up of fresh snow to carve up. But little did we know, the best was yet to come, with over 30cm of fat-flaked-fluffy white stuff falling on Wednesday and Thursday…obviously all those snow dances were well received by the Gods of Shredding. There was joy in the village – youngsters frolicked in the powder, with snowball fights and the old ice-down-the-back trick a plenty. The week wrapped up on a sunny high: a change of weather and a couple of straight bluebird days at the end of the week, with awesome fresh powder and some rippin’ windblown stashes up the top…there was some SERIOUS stoke on the mountain.

Taking advantage of the rad conditions, Thredbo hosted some awesome races this week with Thredbo Snow Series Ridercross and the NSW Mogul Series. There were some hairy turns and some serious elbow-bumping on the Ridercross – quite a spectacle for those on the side!

Whilst the snow was awesome, that wasn’t the only thing ramping up the stoke this week. Uni week was pumping with some off-the-charts parties and an amazing artist lineup, including the world-famous Yolanda Be Cool as well as Go Freek and Indian Summer.

The week finished off with a rush of adrenaline…the Red Bull King of Bob was crowned on Saturday night, after several hours of crazy racing down the Bob course on Friday Flat under a spectacular fireworks display. As if that wasn’t enough, the party continued at the Keller Bar with the Oakley Prizm Palooza Party where the Bob-racers kept the adrenaline pumping on the DF and with heaps of free Oakley prizes, it was a winning night and a winning week all round.
