Amazing Turnout for the Backcountry Tours Information Talk in Sydney

Posted on 25 May, 2018

This winter Thredbo has partnered up with the North Face to launch an all new and exciting product…Backcountry Tours! You can now enjoy a guided Backcountry Adventure outside of the resort boundaries, where you’ll not only learn important backcountry safety skills but also ski and board some incredible and unique terrain.

On Wednesday night, Thredbo and The North Face hosted a Backcountry Information night to provide a further understanding of what’s being offered this winter and to answer any questions anyone had in regards to the Backcountry Tours and Backcountry Touring in general. We we’re also lucky enough to have Jake Iskov (Lead Guide for the Tours), Anna Segal and Tim Macartney-Snape join us to share their experiences and knowledge in the Australian Backcountry and why they love it so much.

For those of you who don’t know who Anna and Tim are…

Anna Segal is a professional freeskier, who has achieved international success on the competitive freeskiing circuit in slopestyle skiing – including competing for Australia in the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics, where she placed 4th. Since the Olympics, Anna has branched out with the aim of developing her backcountry skiing skills and progressing the sport she loves in ways that competition didn’t allow. Anna’s focus still rests on progressing women’s skiing, but rather than displaying it to a panel of judges, her endeavours are captured through the lens of a camera.

Tim is well at home in the mountains. An Australian mountaineer, explorer, writer and entrepreneur, Tim was the first Australian to summit Everest alongside Greg Mortimer in 1984. While he’s climbed giants like Ama Dablam and Gasherbrum 4, Tim has also taken to exploration in the smaller ranges of the Australian landscapes. Having skied many runs in the main range – he’s still eager to explore more.

Tim was awarded with quote of the night – “Many locals say that a good day in Thredbo is as good as anywhere in the world…now that may or may not be true…but I’ve skied backcountry off Thredbo and I can say that it’s definitely some of the best in the world”.

Huge thanks to Capital Brewing, The North Face and to everyone who came out to listen! Incredible to see so many people willing to learn and get involved in the Backcountry Tours.

Another information night is being held in Melbourne this Monday the 28th of May at The North Face Store on Bourke St. Click here for more details on the event and see you there!

Thredbo sits on the traditional land of the Monero – Ngarigo people who have looked after this land, water and community for over 60,000 years. We thank them for all they have done and continue to do to look after their country, a special place which we all love and respect.
