Hall Of Fame: Thredbo’s Legendary Music Event History

Posted on 1 Jul, 2023 in Festivals & Events

While it seems like everyone’s talking about Taylor Swift’s upcoming Eras Tour, not many people know that the star actually had a Thredbo era.

We have an impressive history of supporting up-and-coming artists who have gone on to have insanely successful careers, to say the least. Keep scrolling as we look back at the star-studded talent that’s graced our stage over the years…

2009: Taylor Swift

In a time before Tiketek’s presale frenzies, Grammy awards and sold-out global arenas, Taylor Swift performed her second-ever Australian show in Thredbo for the 2009 CMC Rocks The Snowys concert. Wowing the crowds with her hit song Love Story, it’s safe to say the show was a success. Being interviewed in Thredboland, Taylor Swift told a reporter that “It’s been unbelievable, getting to come over to Australia and play shows. It’s beyond anything I could have ever dreamed about.”

2013: Efterski Festival

We really kicked it up a notch in 2013, hosting our first-ever big winter apres music event with Efterski Festival where we hosted the likes of Kele (Bloc Party), HERMITUDE, RÜFÜS, Alison Wonderland & World End Press on the stage. Yes, RÜFÜS.

2013 & 2014: Smirnoff Snow Dome

Ah, the Snow Dome… An iconic location that lives on in our memories. Inside the Snow Dome, we saw legendary performances by Touch Sensitive, Peking Duk, Young Franco & Alison Wonderland.

2014: One Hit Wonder Festival

In September of 2014, we hosted the One Hit Wonder Mountain Festival, transforming into what we described as “a mecca of music, big air skiing, boarding, and of course, the best winter après fun in Australia.” Billed as headliners for the festival were DJ Alison Wonderland, Miami Horror and The Aston Shuffle, with ‘supporting acts’ like  Young Franco, The Delta Riggs and LDRU.

2015: The Preatures & The Rubens

In 2015, The Preatures & The Rubens were both headliners at our Sunset Session events. The Rubens blew up almost straight after. In our blog, we described The Preatures as “An awesome band who are marking their name on the Australian music scene.”

2016: Morgan Evans, Kip Moore, Kelsea Ballerini & Daryl Braithwaite

In 2016, we hosted some massive names at our Country Music Festival. Morgan Evans, Kip Moore, Kelsea Ballerini & Daryl Brathwaite all hit the stage at Friday Flat and have all gone on to big things. This wasn’t Morgan’s first show in Thredbo either, having first performed here with Shannon Noll in 2008. Fast forward to today and Morgan Evans is still creating number-one hits.

2016: Yolanda Be Cool, Art Vs Science, The Jungle Giants, Client Liaison, Ocean Alley, Lime Cordiale, Safia, Gang Of Youths, Owl Eyes & Flight Facilities

Is that the 2023 Splendor In The Grass lineup? Nope, that was from the first year we teamed up with Canadian Club to host our now-infamous First Base events. Who knew that we’d still be partying in retro sweaters to this day? To quote ourselves, “Ocean Alley tore up the dance floor with their funky tunes”.

2017: First Base ft. Confidence Man… An Event That People Are Still Talking About

In 2017, the après lineup featured Flight Facilities, Hayden James, Yolanda Be Cool, Hot Dub Time Machine, Confidence Man, Client Liaison, Thelma Plum, The Preatures & Winston Surfshirt. People still talk about Confidence Man’s performance to this day – it was THAT good.

2018 – DJ Tigerlily In The Village Square

Hands up if you remember when we used to host our après parties in the Village Square? What a time. In 2018, DJ Tigerlily, Montaigne, Winston Surfshirt, The Faders, Hot Dub Time Machine, Touch Sensitive & Client Liaison were our headliners. Another supporting act on our stage was Kinder Sounds, a new pop duo on the scene who returned to headline our Heineken Saturday event on Opening Weekend in 2023. A special shoutout must go to our “Ski, Swipe & Party” events at The Keller Bar back in 2018. Again, what a time!

2023 – Australia’s Biggest Après Line-up Is Still Going Strong

Fast forward to now and we’re stoked to still host Australia’s biggest après line-up every winter. This year’s headliners include Anna Lunoe, Kinder, L D R U, Mashd N Kutcher, Mell Hall, Pat Stevenson, Poof Doof, Rich Penny, Side Boob, Sneaky Sound System, Wongo and Tori Levett. Get ready to experience more of our iconic après events that we’ll be talking about for years to come… Check out the full 2023 winter events calendar HERE.
