  • A 13cm fresh snowfall on Tuesday was a timely reminder for the Thredbo community on why it is so important to protect and prioritise our unique alpine environment.
  • This Environment Week, Thredbo Resort is hosting a series of events and initiatives for our guests, community and beyond to drive awareness about about our environmental initiatives.
  • On Monday, Thredbo commemorated the first day of Environment Week by inviting the community to join a Tour to the Top as well as an Environment & Sustainability Night, with a range of other initiatives running all week.

Environment Week is in full swing at Thredbo Resort, coinciding with 13cm of fresh snowfall on Tuesday. With the great snow conditions providing a timely reminder about the importance of protecting our unique environment, Thredbo is also hosting a series of events and initiatives all week to raise awareness about what we can all do to create a more sustainable future.

Thredbo kicked off Environment Week by hosting a successful Tour to the Top on Monday, which saw members of the community hike to the top of Mt Kosciuszko to spend time appreciating the outdoors and raising awareness about our environmental initiatives.

On Monday night, guests and staff were invited to attend an Environment & Sustainability Night at The Kosciuszko Room where they enjoyed hearing from a host of passionate environmental speakers. Notably, Huw Kingston spoke to guests about his Alpine Odyssey expedition where he plans to ski the entire 600km length of the Australian Alps, raising money for Save the Children.

The Environment & Sustainability Night also played host to André Russ from EarthCheck who presented Thredbo with its EarthCheck Gold Certification. As an industry leader in sustainability, Thredbo takes pride in being EarthCheck certified for six years running and has now achieved its Gold Certification for the second year in a row, a first for an Australian snow resort. The recognition makes Thredbo a leader of sustainable tourism destinations worldwide which are certified to the internationally recognised EarthCheck Destination Standard.

Thredbo has a range of other initiatives planned throughout Environment Week to continue driving awareness, teaming up with Green Caffeen on Friday to offer free coffees and raise awareness about Green Caffeen’s reusable swap-and-go coffee cup scheme. What’s more, all week long Thredbo is partnering with Greenfleet to match guests’ carbon offset donations and is also hosting a Heat The Homeless appeal, encouraging guests to donate pre-loved jackets to help warm those sleeping rough.
