Super spring conditions thanks to a very clingy winter

Posted on 24 Sep, 2017

You would have been forgiven for thinking that we might just skip spring this year with all the snow we’ve seen for the start of September. Thanks to a winter clingier than your ex (it just wouldn’t leave!) and a lazy-to-get-going spring, we now have some of the best spring skiing conditions we’ve seen in years, and this week was a ripper.

The first two weeks of September saw the Blizzard of Oz 3.0 deliver over 140cm, with a nice little top up in the second week of 17cm, and a fresh dusting earlier this week just to keep us happy (thanks winter!) This has set us up for a SUPER spring of shredding with a record-breaking Spencer’s Creek base snow depth level and awesome coverage across the mountain meaning that you can still go pretty much anywhere you want around the resort… unheard of at this time of year.

We had a week of delightful bluebird weather to enjoy the super spring conditions, Monday saw some awesome windblown snow up the top especially around Antons and Wednesday and Thursday were lovely and mild and sunny – ideal goggling-tanning weather. It was perfect for sending it in the terrain parks with perfectly clear skies and the softer snow later in the week was ideal for beginners and first timers, being a little more forgiving. Even the Thredboland animals were shreddddddin’

With school holidays starting, the September Kids Snow Festival kicked off and once again parents you can thank us later for keeping the kids entertained – you’re welcome 😉 Giant games of chess, Connect Four and Jenga were on the cards along with  the Kids Flare Run, face painting, the Kids Movie Night (aka free babysitting- again, you’re welcome parents), ceramic painting, kids trampolining and the Thredbo Amazing Race…if that’s not enough for one week, it’s all happening until September 30 to keep the kids sleeping soundly each night.

Thredbo sits on the traditional land of the Monero – Ngarigo people who have looked after this land, water and community for over 60,000 years. We thank them for all they have done and continue to do to look after their country, a special place which we all love and respect.
