The Return of the Blizzard….

Posted on 7 Sep, 2017

We’re now at the tail end of #BlizzardOfOz3 and it has delivered way beyond our expectations…blanketing the mountain thus far with 140cm (and still counting) of the lightest, driest snow you can come across in Australia…we’re stoked and pretty sure everyone else is as well!

Like us, you might be lost in the blur of the blizzard as it’s been non-stop POW TOWN for 4 days now…the thermals are wet, the boards and skis are covered in snow, the legs burning but most importnatly…The stoke levels are HIGH!

Below is a rundown of #BlizzardOfOz3 – following it’s daily dumps, bumps and jumps from Day 1 through to Day 4 (today).

DAY 1 – Knock, knock, knockin on the blizzards door…

Rise and shine…wait, why is it white outside? That was the reaction of most guests waking to another Monday in paradise, however this Monday was super special…there was 10cm of fresh across the resort and snow forecast to fall throughout the day.

The Golf Course Bowl and Boundary Riders were the pick of the morning, offering untracked fresh turns for all of those that looked for it. Come 1pm, Blizzard of Oz really turned it up and the snow began falling so hard that everyones tracks from the run previous would be filled in…endless powder…YEAH BABY!

Day 2 – Are we in Japan?

Day 2 delivered 50cm across the entire resort and it was on…like Donkey Kong! Locals were claiming best day of the season and everyone in the lift line could not contain their excitement.

The snow was comparable to that of the resorts located in the Northern Hemisphere…first timers, intermediates and seasoned pro’s we’re all asking one question…is this really Australia?

The snow was light, dry, deep and scrumdiddlyumptious…as you can see in the video below. Hoots are hollers were shared by everyone on the mountain…one of the best days ever here in Thredbo!

Day 3 – Blizzard breaking records

Blizzard of Oz 3…THANK YOU! Day 3 delivered 50cm…taking the accumulative total of the storm to 130cm. Day 3 was one for the books and I think it’s safe to say that every skier and snowboarder up here agreed…

Do you know that the accumulative season base is now sitting at 233cm at the Spencers Creek site? That’s the deepest base since 2000!!! This snowfall has now taken our season total over the 4 metre mark, shaping it up to be one September to remember.

Day 3 did not disappoint in terms of snow quality, delivering light, dry and deep conditions for all skiers and boarders to rip into and to top it all off the sun even decided to pop its head out to say hello every now and then throughout the day. Visibility and 50cm of fresh pow = SNOW STOKED.

Day 4 – Legs of steel…

If you don’t have legs of steel by today then you haven’t been making the most of #BlizzardOfOz3…

Another 10cm fell overnight, topping up the mountain even more with the freshest snow we’ve seen in a long time! The picks of the day were The Cruiser Chair, The Basin and Powder Bowl which all offered incredible skiing and boarding as well as lots of fun windlip options to jump off.

The sun popped out to say hello and only one word can describe how the resort looked today after 140cm of snowfall across the past 4 days…SEXY.

Skiers and boarders made the most of the tail end of the Blizzard in the morning, smashing out runs till their hearts content.

To wrap it all up, we’ve received 140cm since Monday, have the highest snow depth now since 2000 and everybody that rode the mountain this week are…STOKED.

Bring on what will be one September to remember!
