The Ultimate Saturday…

Posted on 16 Jul, 2017

By Zoë Fitzpatrick

Have you ever wondered how the Gods spend their weekends? How demi-God Beyonce would spend her last day on earth? Well your wondering shall go unanswered no longer… behold: the Ultimate Saturday – and lucky for you it’s RIGHT HERE IN THREDBO (what are the chances?!) Put this Saturday 22 July in your diary because in true 60th Birthday style, Thredbo is pulling out all stops and you’re not going to want to miss it.

For the ultimate day, you need the best of everything: shredding, a bit of solid competition, apres with a view and of course an epic party.

Look, it’s no small feat nailing the ultimate Saturday, so we’ve broken it down into 4 easy steps to make sure your Saturday is sweeter than Lemonade.

STEP 1: SHRED THE GNAR’

Whether you’re a Freerider, a park rat, an on-piste edger or a sparkly-eyed first-timer, you’ll be 100% #Stoked this weekend after a week of fresh pow at Thredbo. With over 32cm in the past 24hours alone, any other second-rate Saturday brunch plans must clearly be postponed so you can get your piece of the action. Quick tips: Hit up the Cruiser area on first lifts if you love getting first tracks on some fast groomed runs, or for the serious powder shredders, get your butt to the off-piste action up around the Basin area and off the Kozi chair.

STEP 2: APRES LIKE A EUROPEAN

The best way to Apres? With a view of course. All that shredding makes you thirsty and everyone knows that all drinks taste better on the mountain. Bring your tired muscles and ski legs to recharge on the deck at the iconic Merritts Mountain house for a couple of cold ones…or maybe even a cheeky hot choccie and a bite to eat. Or go the full long lunch (it is a Saturday after all) with all the trimmings and make your way to Kareela Hutte where you can eat your European-apres heart out with enough Goulash, German sausages and sauerkraut to keep you going well into wee hours of Sunday.

STEP 3: EARN YOUR CROWN AT THE RED BULL KING OF BOB

Who is the Red Bull King of Bob, you ask? This crown can only go to one – and they must prove they are truly worthy. Don’t be fooled into thinking this is your average bobsledding race: competitors must master the slopes and their wild steed (meet Bob: a flimsy piece of plastic akin to a plastic picnic plate with a handle) as they ride their way down the curly course in a bid to cross the line first and be crowned with the ultimate title on the Ultimate Saturday – making you for sure, hands down, 100% the no. 1 Ultimate Person* Make sure you pre-register here for your chance to win an Aerobatic Flight Experience if you are crowned King.
(*aside from Queen Bey, Elon Musk, Nobel Prize winners etc.)

STEP 4: PARTY LIKE YOU’RE IN THREDBO.

Everyone knows there ain’t no party like a Thredbo party, and after all that adrenaline at the King of Bob, you’re sure to want to dance it out at the Oakley Prizm Palooza After-Party at the Thredbo Alpine Hotel, Keller Bar, from 9pm. Sydney’s kings of Hip Hop, the Halfway Crooks, will be pumping out the tunes for you to nail your best dad moves, and there will be heaps of Oakley giveaways all through the night, so make sure you make an appearance.
