HAYDEN JAMES & RETRO CLAIMS: THE FIRST FIRST BASE PARTY

Yes – you read correctly: on the first weekend of July, Thredbo got its retro boogie on and went First Base in an all-out epic poolside vintage après party hosted by DJs Danny Clayton and Tom Tilley, featuring the legendary Hayden James.

The night went off with a bang – and by that I mean the mosh danced their retro-clad butts off to some crazy beats as the night climaxed with a spectacular fireworks display. In the continuing celebration of 60 years of Thredbo, partygoers showed their true colours: their retro colours. There were fluro onesies, headbands and colour-blocking retro Bogner puffer jackets that looked like they had skied straight off the 1980’s slopes.

Canadian Clubs in hand, old school ugly sweaters better than your grandma’s frolicked between the fire pits, the BBQ and the dancefloor. The true après enthusiasts wore their aforementioned vintage get-up on the mountain earlier that day, rocking the classic ski-boot-on-the-DF look that has defined the Thredbo party scene across the last 60 years. Hayden James – fresh from the US where he was writing a song for Katy Perry’s new album (#namedrop) really got the night pumping, dropping the beat all the way down to first base.

Highlight of the night including Danny Clayton’s crowd surf, and what’s a Thredbo snow party without a shoey? Shout outs also to the die-hard ravers who dropped some moves on stage, and of course the few who were game enough to jump in the jacuzzi knowing that they had to brace the freezing air and run through the enthusiastic crowd back to the warmth of the hotel. As the saying goes – what happens in Thredbo stays in Thredbo.

It really was a night to remember and thankfully, not the last time Thredbo will be hosting a party for its 60^th.
