Thrills and Spills: Snow Series Ridercross Wrap Up

Posted on 24 Jul, 2017 in Thredbo Parks

The Thredbo Snow Series continued with the always entertaining Ridercross going down on High Noon. Cash prizes, bags of swag and bragging rights were up for grabs. On top of that points towards the overall series were on offer. To take out the overall Snow Series, consistent performance in all events across all disciplines is required.

On Wednesday morning racers were greeted with a classic Thredbo day… blue skies, fresh snow and crisp cord. The atmosphere at the Snow Series events is always electric, fuelled by friendly competition and banging beats from the Peg Bar Sound Cat. The beefed up course including the wu-tang start feature would allow the cream to rise to the top. After single rider qualification the action intensified with 4 racers going head to head in the elimination heats. As the field was whittled down, the enthusiastic crowd found their favourites and their voices spurring the competitors on.

Anticipation was high for the finals and the racers responded, putting it all on the line to get across the finish line first. Rubbing is racing and with the tight, technical course we did see some thrills and spills as the racers risked it to take home the biscuit. Despite that the Snow Series sense of camaraderie prevailed. Stoked to have run the gauntlet and survived, the riders hugged and high fived after the finish. Then it was back to the top of the course for presentations, prizes and podium photo shoots.

With Ridercross wrapped up 2 of the 5 Snow Series events have been completed… Freeride on the Bluff is up next on August 4th. Thanks to their help the series keeps getting bigger and better.

Thredbo sits on the traditional land of the Monero – Ngarigo people who have looked after this land, water and community for over 60,000 years. We thank them for all they have done and continue to do to look after their country, a special place which we all love and respect.
