The holiday season kicks into full effect in a few days…who’s excited?

The heat is starting to hit and what better way to escape the crowds and cool down than taking a trip to Thredbo, located in the beautiful Snowy Mountains to embark on some spectacular hikes around the Australian Main Range. It sure beats spending the day at a stinking hot and busy city beach.

Thredbo boasts some of the best hikes in New South Wales, offering the highest and best views in Australia. From waterfalls to mountain peaks, Thredbo ticks all the boxes for an adventurous day out in mountains.

Below are three must do hikes this summer for anyone that’s planning to visit Thredbo…the best thing is that there’s something for everyone! Whether your conquering Australia’s highest peak with the family, taking on a full day hike exploring the beautiful Australian main range with your better half or checking out the stunning alpine waterfalls with your mates, there’s a hike that will stoke everyone out.

– MT. KOSCIUSZKO SUMMIT HIKE –

Thredbo’s most famous and iconic hike, the Mt. Kosciuszko Summit is a must do hike for every Australian. The perfect hike for all ages and abilities…make your way to the top of Australia as you take in the beautiful sights and surroundings of the Snowy Mountains. From ancient glacial lakes to unique alpine flora and fauna, there’s so much adventure to enjoy.

Did you know that Mt. Kosciuszko is one of the seven summits? It sits at 2,228 metres and is the highest mountain in Australia! Not to worry though, it’s really not that hard. Thredbo has a scenic chairlift that gets you up to 1937m…so your legs are good to go for the roughly 4 hour round trip hike and have enough juice left in the thighs for when you reach the top to get your #ConquerKozzie photo. – MT. TOWNSEND GUIDED HIKE –

Who’s got some adventure in their belly? The Mt. Townsend hike is a guided hike for the lovers of the outdoors and the explorers at heart. Get ready to be ‘wowed’ by the beauty of the Australian Main Range as you experience 22km of majestic views overlooking the mountain tops of the surrounding alpine area and Victorian High Country. Once you reach the top of Mt. Townsend, which is the second highest point in Australia…sitting at 2209m it’s only 19m behind Mt. Kosciuszko, you’ll take in the views of the dramatic western faces of the Main Range and breathtaking views of NSW you wouldn’t believe existed.

– DEAD HORSE GAP GUIDED HIKE – 

Level: Intermediate
Approx Time: 2-3 Hours

The Dead Horse Gap trail is one of the best hikes in the area, it’s mostly downhill so the thighs won’t be burning the entire hike allowing for more time to take in the stunning scenery. At roughly 600m above the valley floor, this trail offers incredible views of Australia’s high country.

Throughout the walk, you’ll experience the beautiful forest of snow gums which come in all shapes and sizes…a must see for anyone who hasn’t experienced this yet. You will also encounter local alpine wildflowers and valley views of the Ramshead Range and beyond…it’s a hike that delivers 100% nature overload.
