Enjoy the Outdoors this Summer…New Year Hikes to Enjoy

Posted on 18 Jan, 2018

Ever wanted to walk to the top of Australia? Well you can #ConquerKozzie and do exactly that this summer in Thredbo. In summer,  the stunning Kosciuszko national park scenery comes to life with incredible colour and vigour. With glacial lakes and unique flowers and native animals, it’s the perfect backdrop for a picturesque hike, and there are plenty of trails with a variety of levels to suit all hikers, as well as the option of self-guided or guided hikes – thanks to our team of experienced and knowledgeable guides.

#ConquerKozzie

If you’d prefer to hike to the top of Kozzie with just your own company or even head up with a group of mates or the family, you can take the self-guided option…but only if you’ve got the stamina! It’s a beautiful 4-6 hour walk up to the 2228m peak where you’ll be the highest people in Australia, with the option of a further 2km walk to the lookout to check out some uniquely magical alpine views.

Hike with the Sqaud

Get the kids outside and away from their devices and into the great outdoors… there’s nothing like a family adventure. For a nice easy track that will suit even the little legs, check out the Pipeline Path, which is fairly flat and finishes at the beautiful Snowmaker’s Pond, an ideal spot for a picnic (and maybe even a swim!)…once you’ve done that, you can check out the Riverside Golf Course walk which explores the other side of the village, and takes you across beautiful bridges and to gorgeous lookouts. Find out about self-guided hikes you can take with the family here.

Must Do: Guided Sunset Hike

A popular choice for the romantics amongst us, you can hike to the top of the beautiful Mt. Kosciuszko as the sun sets for that totally-grammable photo opportunity when you get to the top. At 13km long, offering incredible 360-degree mountain views into Victoria and across the Main Range, as well as stunning wildflowers, this is one to write home about and your guide will be there to take you to the top of the highest and largest piece of alpine in Australia. If you want a bit of extra romance, you can even do this one on Valentine’s day with the option of a picnic dinner pre-made and ready for you to take with you thanks to the delicious Cascades restaurant.

Romantic Hikes

This one is truly special… the 19km Alpine Lakes hike is the one that you’ll be putting photos on social media about for days. Whilst it’s a long walk (all day), if you’re reasonably fit it’s definitely one you can tackle, and with the reward of some incredible glacial lakes and stunning views you’ll have all the motivation you’ll need. Your guide is the expert here and will offer some interesting historical facts and information about the landscape as you go, until you make your way all the way to Charlotte Pass, where you can treat yourself with a nice cold drink and nibble or two, and then hop in the courtesy vehicle back to Thredbo.
