Mother Nature Delivers A Backcountry Bounty

Posted on 28 Sep, 2020 in On the Slopes

Mother Nature has delivered a springtime backcountry treat with more than 20cm of fresh snow falling over the weekend.

The late season snowfall was welcomed by skiers and snowboarders in Thredbo keen to adventure beyond resort boundaries with backcountry tours running until October 11.

Hosted by some of the most passionate and knowledgeable guides in the country, the tours provide guests access to incredible terrain and important backcountry safety skills to take riding to the next level.

For the ultimate bucket list experience there’s even the opportunity to hike to Mount Kosciuszko, the highest point in the country, where participants most definitely earn their turns!

With tours on offer for all levels of backcountry enthusiasts, those wanting to see what it’s all about can take the Introduction to Backcountry tour – perfect for anyone new to alpine touring. The Beginners Tour is a prerequisite before joining the other, more demanding tours.

Skiers and snowboarders in search of the perfect lines are in their element on the Beyond The Boundaries Tour. From Ramshead to Mt Kosciuszko, this tour is a mission to find the best turns on offer this spring!

Experienced adventurers hungry for a challenge can take the Advanced Adventurer Tour, which provides advanced backcountry skills training and access to more technical terrain. This tour is available on demand and gives riders the chance to summit Australia’s highest peaks for an unforgettable experience outside of your comfort zone.

Each guest is provided with a loan North Face backpack that contains a beacon, probe and shovel. Snowshoes, splitboards and touring skis are available for rental so participants don’t need to purchase any gear beforehand.

Tours require a minimum of 2 guests with a maximum of 5 people per tour.

For those wanting to embark on their own adventure, the Scenic Lift Pass is perfect if you just want to ride the scenic chairlift or want to head out into the backcountry. If going into the backcountry independently remember to fill out the online Trip Intention Form with NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service before heading out.
