Cannonball MTB Festival 2022 Day 3 | Huge Speeds At The Fox Flow Motion Cup

Posted on 10 Feb, 2022 in Festivals & Events

The field was stacked, the track was fast and the weather was hot…day 3 of the Thredbo Cannonball MTB Festival really stepped it up.

Today was a big day for all, with the categories in Group A racing the Fox Flow Motion Cup in the morning, and the Oakley Australian Open Downhill Seeding Run taking place in the afternoon for the pros and U19’s.

The famous Fox Flow Motion Cup, while not super technical, is a race that requires a fit, efficient type of rider. The roughly 5km time-trial race down the Kosciuszko Flow Trail features a stack of steeply banked berms and rolling traverses, demanding each rider to have impeccable cornering and pedalling ability.

The fastest time down the hill today was Josh Carlson in the E-Bike men’s category, finishing the course with a time of 8:19.841. Lee Tynan, racing in the 40 to 49 Years Men category came in with the fastest time of the day on a traditional bike, crossing the finish line with a time of 8:42.208.

Young pinner Daniel Turkovic in under 15’s men was up there with the big boys coming in overall 6th and smashing the course in 8:50.902. And it runs in the family…sister Elleni Turkovic in the U17 women’s was the fastest female on the hill, crossing the line with a time of 9:14.459.

All ages were seen out the hill today from masters 50+ to U13’s. Noah McCarroll is just 9 years old and competed in today’s Fox Flow Motion Cup. He said “the first bit was a bit hard because you had to peddle in a low gear so you could get faster” but that didn’t stop him smashing out the course receiving a time of 10:00.230.

The top fastest competitors to be heading into the pro men’s Oakley Australian Open Downhill on Saturday is Jackson Frew, Luke Meier-Smith, Josh Arcus, Kye A’Hern and Dean Lucas.

Sian A’Hern smashed out her run finishing with a time of 5:56.866, followed by Ellie Smith and Tegan Molloy. The top time for the U19’s men was Smith Meier with 5:24.491 and Connor Mielke was the fastest U19 female with 6:44.336.
