Cannonball MTB Festival 2022 Day 4 | Fox Flow Motion Cup Part Two Heats Up

Posted on 11 Feb, 2022 in Festivals & Events

It was a heavy-hitting lineup of Australia’s best on the podium for Group B of the Fox Flow Motion Cup. The Flow Trail offers competitors the chance to push their speed to the limits with never-ending rollers and smooth berms to blast to the bottom.

And speed there was! Luke Meier-Smith took out the win with an incredible time of 8:09.161, beating Josh Carlson’s winning time from the 2019 Cannonball by just under a second! Luke Meier-Smith was 3.332 seconds in front of second-place claimed by Ryan Gilchrist with a time of 8:12.493, followed by Connor Fearon riding into third with 8:15.293.

The females absolutely smashed the course with conviction and pace! Ellie Smith raced to the finish in a time of 9:06.423, just over 10 seconds ahead of Zoe Cutherbert with a time of 9:17.001 and Tegan Molloy with 9.25.304.

It has been the Cannonball for sibling domination as Luke’s younger brother, Remy Meier-Smith bagging the win in the U19’s men category crossing the finish line not far behind his brother clocking in a time of 8:21.846.

Grant Jones in the 30 to 39 Years men’s category was up there in the rankings with a super speedy time of 8:24.018, and the top U17 rider was Lewis Allbon, finishing the course with a time of 8:37.175. Connor Mielke was the top female in U19 women’s, pulling out a crazy good run of 9:15.163.

It’s getting to the pointy end of the eighth Cannonball MTB Festival with the three biggest events yet to come. The Rockshox Pump Track Challenge will kick off tonight at 6.15pm and will see a lineup of pros going head to head including Caroline Buchanan, Luke Meier-Smith, Duke Millington, Josh Arcus, Thomas Crimmins, Josh Arcus and more. Stay tuned for all the info on this event coming soon!

Tomorrow will be another HUGE day with the famous Oakley Australian Open Downhill race starting at 11.45am before we send off the festival with the incredible big invite-only Deity Whip Wars event at 5pm.
