That’s A Wrap For Winter 2023! Looking Back At The Best Moments

Posted on 18 Sep, 2023 in On the Slopes

Well the time has come and we have officially wrapped up skiing and snowboarding for winter 2023 two weeks earlier than expected. Mother Nature may have kept us on our toes but we had a LOT of magical times this season! Keep scrolling as we look back on some of the best moments…

While the snow arrived a little later than usual, the good times kicked off from the get-go at our 2023 Opening Weekend! Despite not being able to ski or snowboard from day one, the atmosphere was incredible as guests enjoyed non-stop celebrations throughout the village and across the mountain.

Mother Nature joined the party soon after and skiing & snowboarding kicked off in full force from June 20.

There was lots of fun to be had on the mountain this winter with multiple powder days, immaculately groomed runs, and lots of bluebird days.

This season, we officially launched Australia’s newest ski lift, Freddie’s Snowsports Snowrunner. Dedicated to the resort’s new Kids Learning Area, Freddie’s Snowrunner was a game changer for kids who were learning how to ski or snowboard. It is one of Australia’s longest snow runners at 98 metres long, travelling through a tunnel that protects children from the elements while they’re enjoying the snow.

Our Parks crew were on fire this winter! We had professional-level facilities for everyone to enjoy with a 65-foot jump, Australia’s Only Halfpipe and three terrain park set-ups with a huge range of rails, jumps, picnic benches and boxes.

This winter, Thredbo teamed up with world-renowned parks builder Charles Beckinsale to bring the Stomping Grounds Project to the Southern Hemisphere for the first time. Charles built a 65-foot jump for the elite training sessions, drawing in a huge number of the world’s best riders to Thredbo including Mark McMorris, Anna Gasser and Clemens Millauer as well as the national teams from the United States, Canada, Austria, Japan, China and Australia.

We hosted over 160 events within fourteen weeks this season!

On the mountain, highlights included unveiling the brand-new Thredbo Triple Crown series, hosting over 50 of the world’s best snowboarders at the 2nd Annual Monster Energy Bush Doof, selling out of registrations for the Transfer Banked Slalom weeks in advance, and providing kids with an incredible opportunity to shred with their heroes at the inspiring Project Shred event.

We took après to the next level this winter! Our famous festival-style après events took over Alpine Bar almost every Saturday night with massive lineup of Australian headliners including Sneaky Sound System, L D R U, Anne Lunoe, the Poof Doof DJs, Wongo and Kinder. The people of Thredbo turned out at every single one!

In August, the return of Rainbow Mountain was an experience that had to be seen to be believed!

With three non-stop days of sparkly events celebrating love, community and diversity, the atmosphere was incredible as the whole resort got involved with the celebrations.

In between the headline après events, guests were able to experience the iconic flare run and fireworks spectacular show every week, get involved with the Kids Snow Festivals during school holidays, and enjoy daily après on the mountain at Black Sallees and Merritts Mountain House, and in the village at Lounge Bar, Schuss Bar, the Keller Bar and more.

In August, we joined forces with Land Rover Australia to unveil a new snow-covered Range Rover House in the heart of the resort. From August 10 – 20, Thredbo’s luxurious Rockpool Lodge was transformed into an exclusive alpine sanctuary that echoed the design philosophy of Range Rover.

Thank you to all our incredible guests and staff who make winter so special!

We can’t wait to kick off our summer season of mountain biking & hiking from November 18! We’re also busy ramping up construction for our new Alpine Coaster which is planned to be in operation for Winter 2024.

Thredbo sits on the traditional land of the Monero – Ngarigo people who have looked after this land, water and community for over 60,000 years. We thank them for all they have done and continue to do to look after their country, a special place which we all love and respect.
