Summer’s Grand Opening!
THREDBO TO MT KOSCIUSZKO
What an exciting Summer we are gearing up for at Thredbo Alpine Resort! After an incredible Winter full of fun in the deep snow, we are happy to report that it is still quite chilly up here in the mountains and we are still seeing large stretches of snow in the Alpine. We even had another top up over the last week! This means that the big bloom is still to come, which is great news after the last couple of Summers where hot and dry conditions led to an early and condensed flower season.
The resort is set for a grand opening on Saturday, November 22nd, though the Kosciuszko Chairlift will start spinning for Scenic Passengers from this Saturday, November 15th! You can expect to see a lot of snow along the way from Eagle’s Nest to the summit of Mt Kosciuszko, and you will need to traverse some of those long snow patches too, so we suggest packing some hiking poles and sturdy shoes. Keep an eye out for the early blooming alpine flowers such as the Marsh Marigold pictured below – which can be found in those wet patches under freshly melted snow and will only stick around for a short time.
Down in the valley, some lower altitude early-bloomers are splashing the village with colour, and the Thredbo River is a great sight with the constant top-ups of snow keeping it flowing at a beautiful pace. Might still be a bit nippy for a dip, though!
Summer at the Kosciuszko National Park may be opening with a bit of a chill, but you can still expect a warm welcome from those of us here at Thredbo!
