The count down is well and truly on for Opening Day of Winter 2026… and Mother Nature is giving us another taste of what’s to come!

With temperatures dropping down to a chilly -6.4 degrees at 8:30am this morning up the top, it feels like winter has made an early arrival in May – and you won’t hear us complaining!

The rooftops across the Thredbo Village have had a wintry makeover, and the blanket of snow only looks thicker the further you look up the mountain 😍

Overnight, the Snow Cams have transformed, showing snowy scenes across the mountain!

Opening Weekend

With Opening Weekend just around the corner, this snowfall has us all counting down the hours until we can kick off Winter 2026!

And it’s not just the snowfall that has us excited, our Opening Weekend celebrations are set to go off. With live music, live entertainment, face painting, live art, fireworks, and s’mores (just to name a few) happening across the weekend, there’s a strong argument to be made that it’s the best weekend of the season.

Oh, and did we mention that we’re promising skiing and snowboarding from day one? With the help of the All-Weather Snowmaking Machine on Friday Flat (and perhaps some more of Mother Nature’s gifts), our mountain team have been working hard to ensure that you can score your first turns of the season on Saturday June 6 – so get the skis and boards ready!
