Thredbo Hikes Track Report | 23 January

Track Report by Jonathan Francis | Head Guide

Summer is peaking up on the peaks!

CLEAR SKIES AHEAD FOR THE LONG WEEKEND

An Aussie loves a long weekend – and our mountains are no exception! Warm, sunny skies expected for several days to come, and this is bringing out some of the best views on offer in the Alpine. Flowers spring up in new places with every passing week, with an abundance of Snow Daisies and Eyebrights following the path from Thredbo to Mt Kosciuszko.

Here at Thredbo, we are very pleased to see that several snow patches are still visible on the high peaks. In the past couple of years, Summer has been quite hot and dry, leading to the loss of our snow patches early in the Summer. This year, some cool cycles – along with the incredible snow season we experienced in Winter 2025 – mean that the lingering snow is keeping the soils of our alpine cool and wet, just the way they like it! This also leads to long blooming cycles for our alpine flowers, which keeps the colourful views around for much longer.

We expect the great weather to stick around for a while, so it’s a great time to enjoy the alpine trails. Be prepared for some bright Australian sun with the big three – sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat!
