School Holiday Fun: September Kids Snow Festival

The school holidays…a classic conundrum: a break from the routine of early starts, pick-up lines and sports games, but then…what to do to keep the kids entertained? How does an epic snow holiday sound? To keep the kids more than entertained, Thredbo has an awesome Kids Snow Festival lineup for the September school holidays (September 20 – 30) that will have them smiling all day, and most importantly, sleeping soundly all night.

Aside from the festival, spring skiing is perfect for the whole family. There’s plenty of lovely weather and the snow is a little more forgiving for the little ones who might fall over on the odd occasion! The kids can spend the day in ski school with options for kids of all ages, you can have private lessons, or just do your own thing on the mountain. There’s also plenty happening in the village. Here’s our 10 top activities for the kids throughout the Snow Festival:

#1 Who wants pizza? September 20 and 27 at Thredboland, 5-7pm

This is one for the kids AND parents…drop the kids off at Thredboland for a PIZZA MOVIE night while you have the night off! All kids aged 3-12 are welcome and will be under the safe care of our professional staff.

#2 Light up the night at the Kids Flare run…September 21, Friday Flat at 5pm

Kids: this one is all about YOU! The Kids Only Flare run is your time to shine – literally. Meet at Friday Flat and enjoy the colourful fun of bright LED flares, as you make your way down Friday Flat with loads of entertainment, music and of course, apres for mum and dad.

#3 Find the hidden treasure in the Amazing Race…EVERYDAY (Sept. 20-30), 9am to 4pm, start at the Information centre

Thredbo’s AMAZING RACE is on every day throughout the snow festival…get Clue No. 1 from the Information Centre, then see if you’ve got the skills to follow the clues around Thredbo Village to find the hidden treasure! A great activity for the whole family.

#4 Get Creative at the Paint Party… EVERYDAY (Sept. 20-30), Friday Flat, 3.30 – 4.30pm

For all the kids who love painting and drawing, you can come and paint your favourite Thredboland animal for FREE at the ceramic painting workshop everyday.

#5 Play some giant games… EVERYDAY (Sept. 20-30), Friday Flat, 12-2pm

Everyone loves board games, but you know what you’ll love even more? GIANT board games. We’ve got all the favourites: Jenga, Connect Four, Giant Chess… the parents can have a drink at the bar while the kids play, or maybe the adults are up for the challenge too!

#6 It’s Balloon time! September 21 and 29, Friday Flat, 4.30pm

The Thredboland animals will be out to play at Friday Flat and you can grab your favourite balloon animal or creation!

#7 Get bouncy (and maybe even flip out)…Springfree trampolines at the Village Green, Leisure centre and Snow Play Park, ACE Trampoline Kids sessions at the Thredbo Leisure Centre: Sundays – Tuesdays.

We’ve got the World’s SAFEST trampolines here in Thredbo – with Springfree trampolines in 3 locations around Thredbo village ready and waiting for the children (and the adults’ inner child) to have a bounce.

If that’s not enough, you can head to our professional trampolining clinics at the ACE (Acrobatic Centre of Excellence) Trampolining school at the Thredbo Leisure centre. You can learn some tricks to take out on the slopes thanks to the professional instructors. There are various sessions on Sundays, Mondays and Tuesday. To book in call: (02) 6459 4138. #8 Get a hole in one at Disc Golf then Sk8er you L8er…daylight hours, Disc Golf: on the golf course, skating: Thredbo skate park at the village green

If you fancy yourself as a bit of a golfer, head to Valley Terminal and grab yourself discs & score cards and head for a round of disc golf on the golf course, from only $10! For all the skaters out there, the Thredbo village skate park is open every day during daylight hours for as much shredding as you can handle – just bring your own board and helmet.

#9 Fireworks! September 23 and 30, 6.30pm

Thredbo’s famous fireworks are always a spectacular sight against the beautiful mountain…come and see the pyrotechnics as the alpine sky lights up.

#10 Travel back in time… Thredbo Retro Museum, open every day except Monday

Ever wondered what skis used to look like or how Thredbo village came to be? In the spirit of 60 years of Thredbo this year, why not head to the Retro Museum and see and learn all about Thredbo’s rich history.
